I’ve been here a lot. Usually I am the one suggesting we come to Dogwoods. The food has dwindled over time, the steak for the price isn’t that nice but I come for the environment and the drinks.
I had a chicken dinner, it wasn’t great.
My chicken was juicy but the batter was burnt and had no flavour, I scraped most of it off. The cornbread fell a part and I could only have one bit with butter. The slaw and drinks were AMAZING.
At the end of the meal, I decided to let the server know. She was a woman in a blue shirt, who was not very happy about my feedback. She said she would let the chefs know. I was sitting facing the kitchen. I then saw her walk into the kitchen, scrape the food in the bin, pull the chef over laughing, I saw her pull him into what I think is a store room laughing, at what I can also assume was my feedback. When the chefs walked out they were awkwardly looking out into the dinning area.
The woman then walked out and walked past me not even looking at me.
I find this highly unprofessional. If I give feedback hoping you can improve on it for the next person, I don’t expect to be laughed at in the back by the server like a 16 year old girl.
The atmosphere was different than the usual with this woman.
The usual guy behind the bar (with the beard) is such a good character for the restaurant, same as the male server. They make the restaurant theme. The woman in black working behind the bar was lovely too.
My friend who I was dining with mentioned that potentially the woman in blue was a part owner. If that’s the case, then I will not be coming back anytime soon and I will choose elsewhere. It’s embarrassing to think that an owner would act in that way.
I hope you pass this feedback on to the owner and this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
I also sent this to the restaurant themselves. After 3 weeks of no reply or contact, I am...
Read moreI could not fault the food or the wait staff at Dogwood however my low rating is based on how I was treated by the owner of the establishment upon entry. Earlier in the day, I booked a table online and stated in the special requirements that a pram space was needed for my three month old. After booking, I received a call from the owner about this special requirement where I was asked how old my baby was - I would assume to determine if he could be put into a high chair or not. This was followed by a question of if we had a capsule, for which I denied this and told the owner we only had a bassinet connected to our pram which our baby lays in. I was warned of trip hazards for the wait staff and asked that I leave the pram frame and we put the bassinet on a chair at the end of a booth, which I agreed would be no issue. When entering the establishment I had every intention of parking the pram frame by the door however I could see the chair at the end of our booth and figured it would be no different to move the chair and park my pram there instead. I was abruptly told by the owner over the bar "I thought I said no pram" for which I replied "it should fit at the end of the booth instead of the chair" The owner then blankly replied with "it was you I spoke on the phone with wasn't it? you said you had a capsule?" which I then confirmed that we had spoken on the phone but as I stated we did not have a capsule, we had a pram bassinet. I was then met with "I must have misinterpreted that" - No apology or courtesy, he was blatantly rude and I walked to my table feeling extremely embarrassed as the whole establishment was looking at me over the scene he had made. My family, who I raved to about dogwood, were appalled at the level of disrespect we received. We will not be back...
Read moreRecently visited. Decided on having the Dogwood Spread with entrees which were probably the highlight. However the blue cheese sauce was more a cream with blue cheese flavour, did not cling to the wings particularly well.
As for the mains, firstly portin size was not represented by what had been shown on the menu and website.
Now to the quality of the mains themselves. Firstly fried chicken, crumb coating was overcooked and almost burnt, fortunately the chicken was still moist and well cooked.
The pork was dry and stringy, the skin was chewy, it either should be crisp crackling style or melting in the mouth. It was neither. I expected given it was brined that there would be more tenderness and moisture but was disappointed. The more I ate the drier it became.
Finally to the steak, thank goodness we were given steak knives as it would have been impossible to cut any other way. We did however manage it with some difficulties. It was done at our guess to medium/well, our preference for cooking of steak was not asked. Chewy and at best bouncy, which is not what you expect of a steak in a place that specialises (apparently) in the cooking of meat. Hockey puck was the only suitable description for this cut of meat.
Overall portion size was a little on the small side as well, we are used to the generous servings of this style of restaurant.
Side dishes were ok, not anything special but thankfully not anywhere near the problems of the other dishes. Although they were taken before we finished.
Service was good overall, although constant checking in did become a little tiresome, we just wanted to relax and eat. The volume level of the music was too high. Would have preferred it in the background as it was too loud to be able to have a normal...
