Thank you for the funniest restaurant experience in Australia. My dining companion and I ordered a slice of banana bread and a slice of fruit toast. And some tap water. Pretty basic, right?
After 20 minutes and seeing the table next to us, who was seated after us, get specialty coffees and blended fruit juices delivered, we looked around and thought maybe we were supposed to get our own water, but there wasn't a self-serve station.
We kept waiting.
After 30 minutes, and still no water, and again seeing the same table seated after us get complex cooked breakfasts delivered, we were stumped. We could see the pre-made/pre-sliced banana bread in the display case. It was so close. It seemed so easy. Getting it, putting it on a plate and bringing it over would have taken less than 40 seconds.
We kept waiting.
We watched more tables seated after us get served food and beverages.
It started becoming less hilarious as we started getting more hungry.
And then we left.
Thankfully the farmers market was on nearby and we were able to get all sorts of yummy things with zero wait.
For everyone who got the food and drinks that they ordered that morning at the Queen St Cafe, we hope...
Read moreMy friend and I rocked up pretty late after demolishing cinny donuts down the road at Berry Donut Van. I pre-searched this place for lunch prior to my annual trip to Sydney because a menu item piqued my interest and it was conveniently within walking distance.
What a hidden gem. Thank goodness for the sign board leading us the way. It's mainly a cafe for high tea but it also caters for substantial meals. My friend and I were actually impressed with the food. He ordered the fish tacos and I ordered the lobster po boy sliders. As it came with three portions, we traded one with each other to try and yeah, delicious.
My one was actually as described on the menu "lobster tail". The chips were crispy out, potato-ey in and well seasoned with salt and spice. If I didn't opt for my 1st option, my fall back would have also been the fish tacos. The tortilla was lightly warmed on the grill, the crumbed barramundi fillet is visibly seen as the main character and the slaw/salad/salsa is the supporting role. You get a bit of everything...
Read moreTucked down the end of Stan Bury Arcade in beautiful Berry is one of the best cafes in town. There is seating indoors or out. Inside you can relax in the very swanky modern baroque styled dining room or for alfresco puppy friendly dining grab a table outdoors. It’s not any less swanky outside with a persian runner to rest your feet and knitted blankets to warm your lap in the colder months.
The staff are super super friendly and accomodating. Menu variations are not an issue and the service is attentive and prompt.
We ordered breakfast but there is also a good selection for lunch and a nice looking high tea service.
The serving sizes here are big so value for money is pretty good. Everything is prepared fresh and with care and skill.
Coffee is Toby’s Estate and extracted with skill for a beautiful cup whichever way you take it.
One of our favourites in Berry and we...
