I had a very unpleasant experience at this pub over the Easter weekend. My entire visit lasted no more than 40 minutes, during which I ordered food and a beer, went to the restroom, and then sat at the table chatting with my friends while we waited for our order.
Unfortunately, shortly after our food arrived, a woman—presumably the manager, though she never introduced herself or wore a name tag—approached our table and asked us to leave the pub due to what she claimed was my “drunken state.” She justified her decision by saying I had vomited in the restroom and accused me of potentially taking substances there, insisting I was too intoxicated to remain in the venue.
My friends and I were completely shocked. None of us were overly intoxicated. We hadn’t received any complaints from other guests or staff. It was early in the evening, and the bar was half-empty. We were simply sitting at our table, having a quiet conversation and waiting to eat.
I felt absolutely embarrassed and humiliated. Having to publicly explain basic bodily functions I had taken care of in the restroom—and defend myself against unfounded accusations of drug use—during dinner with friends was beyond inappropriate. Both I and my friends assured the manager that I was fine. We even offered to stop ordering any more alcohol and just finish our meal before leaving, but she insisted we leave immediately.
As a generally quiet and non-confrontational person, I didn’t want to cause a scene. But the damage had already been done, and my friends and I no longer felt welcome, so we left.
Having worked in the hospitality industry myself, I understand how difficult and disruptive intoxicated guests can be. But what happened here was entirely unwarranted. Guests who are loud, vulgar, visibly intoxicated, vomiting, or using illegal substances absolutely deserve to be removed—but that was not the case with me.
I believe this woman had some sort of personal issue with me. This experience has completely turned me off from ever returning to this place. Apparently, they hold their guests to high standards—but clearly don’t uphold those same standards themselves.
I would not recommend this pub if you’re looking to have a relaxed evening with friends without being constantly judged or scrutinized for how drunk you are or what you’re doing in...
Read moreI would like to share my feedback about the night we spent at your pub. I moved to Berry a year ago, and we have visited your pub several times since then.
This time, my friend, my fiancée, and I came to enjoy a nice evening together. We ordered a drink and some food. However, at around 6:40 PM, we were asked to leave because my friend was allegedly under the influence of alcohol or something else and was reportedly vomiting in the bathroom.
The saddest part of this situation is how it was handled by your new manager—a short blonde woman who didn’t even introduce herself. She claimed my friend had been vomiting in the bathroom, an allegation my friend firmly denied. At no point was my friend bothering anyone; she was quietly talking with us and did not even attempt to order another drink.
The manager's behavior was deeply disappointing. She asked my friend to leave without offering her a glass of water or showing any real concern for her wellbeing. Worse still, when she tried to explain the situation, she did so without addressing my friend directly, coming across as cold, inhumane, and, frankly, racist.
It was a very embarrassing experience for all of us. We won’t be returning to your premises, and since I heard the manager welcomed...
Read moreOverpriced and overall disappointing.
Good spot to sit by the main road and watch the yuppies walk by. Apart from that, not alot of other great things to say.
Food is very average for the price (take that as disappointing), and when you take card at the bistro but not at the bar (cash only bar), your either too lazy to care about your customers (in which case you don't deserve to have any) or your doing it for 'tax purposes'. People are not interested in this type of behaviour anymore, and especially not people living and visiting Berry (they are less likely to have cash, but lots on their plastic/eftpos/paywave/android/apple pay etc!)
After all that, you might still end up with a $8.00 beer that's flat or has had the lines changed properly in ages.
Is a shame!
Maybe they will sell it and someone can update it to thia century and redo the whole kitchen and bar. If people keep going there regardless though, doubt they are ever going to...
