Fellows Fish Bar — Restaurant in Bowen

Despite many average-at-best reviews I decided to try out this fish bar. Honestly, nothing else in Bowen was open at 4:30 on a Sunday so it was either fish bar or pizza. I'm regretting my decision.

Our meals were extremely overpriced for the quality of food.

The pieces of fish were paper thin - honestly the thinnest and cheapest pieces of fish I've ever been served anywhere. The fries weren't crispy at all. They only had the cheapest Masterfoods tartar and tomato sauce - and or course you need about 8 to compliment your food - and of course they're 0.35$ each.

This is the take away shop where 95% of the menu is either frozen or packaged. I can buy most of their menu in the frozen section of Wollys.

The food was below average. I'd rather eat Dominos or Pizza Hut....

Don't bother with this place. Just go to Bird's for your fish and chips or go next door for some really nice asian food. I ordered a burger and asked for some toppings to be excluded. I pickup my order and find those ingredients added anyway. I showed the service lady and she took it back without any apology or explanation. She comes back out a minute later and hands it back. Again not a word. Literally deadpan. I look inside and the ingredients have just been scrapped off with some left behind. There's a reason I asked for this. I have allergies. I just threw it in the bin and walked away. This isn't the first time this has happened here either. But it will definitely...

Bought lunch here while visiting. Exceptional quality. Had the fish battered. Batter was perfect; light and crunchy, as it should be. The fish was mackerel and a lovely firm fillet. Chips were A class. Crisp and delicious. The potato scallops were also crisp and not soggy. My companion had the chicken burger and declared it the best ever with something ‘special’ done to the chicken coating. The lady who runs the place is friendly and has obviously spent years perfecting her batter, oil and cooking times. Wish this shop was near home....
