I was there with a large group last night. I ordered a $35 steak, 'medium'. The steak arrived and it was so well done it was like leather.
I took it to the restaurant counter and waited for the waitress. After letting her know I had ordered my steak to be cooked medium, the waitress told me I had probably taken the wrong steak. That was the steak she brought me! After a brief argument, she took the steak back to the kitchen.
Moments later, she brought the same steak back out, cut in half, and informed me that this was indeed a 'medium' steak. I was astonished not only at her rudeness, but the fact that she was trying to tell me that this piece of leather, with no pinkness whatsoever, was medium. For $35, could they really not just cook me another steak?
I have lived in Bowral for more than a decade and I value a nice meal at a local pub. I will never eat at The Royal again, and will advise...
Read moreMy partner and I came to Bowral on Sunday 07.06.2020, it was a busy day as every man and his dog had decided to make the trip to Bowral. We had tried to find a place to go for lunch, we tried 5 places which were all booked out, we finally stumbled along The Royal Hotel. The ladies that helped us were so accommodating, we didn't have a booking but they arranged to provide us a table within 15 minutes. While waiting we had some wine next to a wood fire which was lovely! We were seated in the dining room which is gorgeous, there is another wood fire in the centre of the room. My partner ordered the beef burger which he said was really good and I ordered the pork special which was a roast pork and vegetables dinner. It was so delicious! Overall we really loved the feel of the place and the food hit the spot! Would definitely recommend and we will be back again for...
Read moreA regular pub, nothing out of the ordinary. Clean, didn't smell. Beer was cold, Rosé crisp and dry. Waiter who brought our food was pleasant. Went for lunch and we were disappointed with the food. Just wanted something light. I ordered Greek chicken souvlaki for $18. I received 3 tiny skewers. Only thing chargrilled were the sticks. Two bits of capsicum, two bits of onion looked like they were leftovers from another dish. Chicken was pink in the centre. Sauce all over them was odd. I think it was chilli sauce mixed with crumbled feta, not very Greek. Hubby had salt and pepper squid. The chef was very heavy-handed with the salt but not much with the pepper. Once again the sauce was strange and watery. It wasn't gravy, we think it was more like a marinade or vinegar of some sort. Sadly, we shall avoid this establishment when next in...
