Cafe Rocca — Restaurant in Bowral

I would eat at this cafe every few weeks or so. I walked in and sat down to do some work last Wednesday morning. I was intending on having breakfast. I brought a coffee though and was angrily approached by a staff member stating I could not bring my coffee in from another place. I Apologised and said I am ordering breakfast not just sitting here, she replied that I can take a walk and finish my coffee, I said no I am not going to do that and she can take the coffee, she replied I was rude for entering with a coffee, I replied that she was rude for asking me to go for a walk to finish the coffee and then said she thought it was a good idea I left whilst swiping the menus off the table in a rage.

As I was grabbing my things, quite confused by the whole thing at this point, the only others in the outside section were an elderly couple, ladie turned to me and said “wow she is having a bad day” the staff member was way too agro over me bringing a coffee in, should have just asked politely for me to bin the coffee and not come with anger immediately. I asked to see manager, she said she was the manager, I came back after ordering else were and asked her name, it was Lilly apparently.

I was just going to speak to the owners about it as I have been there with a friend who is friends with them quite a few times and when the owners see him they come over for a quick chat with him and the owners and family always seemed so lovely and the food is good but the staff member claimed she was the manager and just doing what they say. Doubt they would want someone attacked in that way over bringing a coffee in from another place but if they put a fool in charge who started drama over nothing then I have less issues writing a review. We had coffee and cakes at Cafe Rocca after a long day going shopping. The coffee and cakes were great. Sadly, we will never go back to this café mainly due to their customer service.

The lady who was taking our orders clearly shown her frustration with our orders as our family was a big group with different orders. Not being able to handle a large volume of orders at once is fine, but showing your attitude and taking it out of your customers are definitely not the way to go.

Other staff members we encountered was also rude to us. One of our family members didnt think they would finish the coffee on the spot, so they ordered the coffee in a takeaway cup. When the staff brought the coffee out, it was in a mug. We mentioned that we ordered in a takeaway cup, and politely asked if we could have it in a takeaway cup. The staff member almost yelled and said that the instruction wasn't written in the docket. I understand that sometimes people have a long day and may be tired, or they don't like their job, but taking it out on customers is not very professional.

I rarely poorly rated any businesses as I understand the impacts of COVID on small businesses in non-metro areas. I, myself, also had worked in the hospitality industry during uni. So for me to rate the cafe this low, it is truly...

We bought sweets from Gumnut and decided to go for a sit down coffee at Rocca. We had no intention of consuming or sweets from Gumnut. Three times they came out tell us that we were not to consume other cafes food, and three time we told them that we had no intention. Staff are rude. Will not come back to this place.

Note: We purchased the coffees from your store. We gave you the business. Please!! you had empty tables. Its better to have some customers sitting down for coffees rather than no customers at all. Why do you call yourself a café? A cafe is a place to have coffee. And you have the nerve to try and justify your actions. Plenty of other cafes in Bowral with a much better attitude towards their customers!!

I own a food store in Sydney. and I would fire any employee that turns away paying customers. I believe you guys have a complex with people purchasing from Gumnut from the sounds of other feedback given below. Get over it !!

AND FOR THE RECORD, NO FOOD FROM OTHER ESTABLISAHMENTS WAS CONSUMED IN YOUR CAFE, WE MADE THAT VERY CLEAR TO YOU!

Please don't use COVID as an excuse for bad customer service.
