Don't go alone for a quick bite to eat as you will be treated with complete disdain. I had been given vouchers to use as a gift, so I went to use them for a quick lunch, but I was literally told to leave "and don't come back", by Julien the Manager, as he reserved the tables for those with more revenue raising potential (ie groups). He did pay out the vouchers in cash instead, but I have never been treated so disgustingly. I might add, I had also received a mild case of food poisoning on an earlier visit, a few weeks prior. The restaurant usually always appears quite busy, so there is no need for such blatant discrimination. Genuine restaurants and good customer service, should welcome all customers, and treat them with equal respect and dignity. Hospitality Managers might behave like this in France or French Canada, but not in Australia, and certainly not in the Southern Highlands!!! Really, really disappointing. And no Julien - you asked me to leave before you knew anything about me so don't fabricate your story, and don't bring your wife and other guest in to it, as they had nothing to do with your poor behaviour. There were also NO threats from me to "harm" your business. You were the only one threatening me - asking me to leave "and not come back" - despite me being a regular customer who has brought at least 3 visitors along with me in the past, and have dined at your restaurant at least 6 times previously. You are harming your own business, and taking no accountability. That is what Google reviews, so the community can tell the truth and warn others of their experience, which is what I am doing. There were also at least three free tables at the time. When I arrived, you also told me to wait while you attended a couple that came in AFTER me. You didn't want to seat me anywhere. You just told me to leave and not come back. It was also late lunch (I deliberately waited as I could see it had earlier been busy) and people were leaving. On an earlier visit, a table of four beside me were also given priority service, ie all four of them had been served main course, while I sat for an extensive period just waiting to get the attention of waiter (the day of my food poisioning). Don't blame me for "ruining your business" - you are doing a good job of that yourself - with your poor operations and conduct!! I am merely sharing my honest experience so others can make up their own minds. While you did apologise on the day, it hardly appeared genuine, as your arrogance in your reply clearly shows, and you appear to think your behaviour is acceptable. It is not. Maybe google the word "hospitality", try another profession, review your rigid seating protocols, for a little more flexiblity, or go back to...
Read moreI love restaurants that choose their identity and do not deviate. Franquette Crêperie does not pretend to be French, it is French. A lovely often subtle French accent among the staff will transport you to another place far away from Bowral. The manners and style of the staff are magnifique.
The galettes are the savoury part of the menu all based on the galette base and adorned with various combinations. Have a look at their menu to see the offering. Here we were tempted by duck, Canard a L’Orange to be precise. This particular dish has simpler layers of flavour compared to the richer versions such as the Porcine. None of the flavours dominated. Just perfectly balanced.
The sweet second course for us was Pêche Melba (is that Aussie Franco cooperation?). Just gorgeous. The photograph says it all. If you are after the more traditional crepes, then there is plenty of choice.
My wife and I had just seen a movie and were not looking for a large meal. So we ordered what they call a “double” which was plenty for us to share for both the galette and crêpe.
I should also mention the wine list is all French and the cocktails list included the usual with some tasty non-alcoholic cocktails.
All up and lovely place and an improvement on the standard fare of so many restaurants in the Highlands. The fit out has opened up the space from how it was in the previous incarnation of the space as Elephant Boy cafe. It was a nice touch to sit under a cook book Délicieux by Gabriel...
Read moreFinally, a Bowral eatery that combines food, service and ambience. The newly opened Bowral creperie offers many crepe (galette) options, including savoury and sweet, brunch, lunch and dinner, as well as gluten-free and vegan. There are even French wines by the glass on offer. This winning formula is a hit with the kids and the grown-ups alike. We called in for brunch on a Sunday, and in Bowral, that can be a brave choice as eateries often need more staff for the influx of out-of-town visitors. The place was a buzz with families, couples, groups of people young and old, tucking into their dishes with gusto. After we were seated, which took a wee while, the service, coffee and food arrived in good time. I had the Petite Dej: a delicious concoction of mushrooms, feta, spinach and hollandaise. My partner had the Braidwood special. Both our dishes came with an 'oeuf du platt' served in the French style; 'doux'. If you don't want a runny egg, it is best to point that out to your server at the time of your order. Overall it was a good experience and we will visit again. However, where did the owner find so many waitpeople with French...
