A Night Ruined by Carelessness and Indifference.
We chose to dine at Antica in Brisbane solely because they claim to offer a “dedicated” vegan menu. Unfortunately, this experience was nothing short of shocking and completely unacceptable.
From the start, we made it absolutely clear multiple times, before ordering and again while ordering — that we were vegan. Despite this, our server proceeded to serve us non-vegan items.
The moment of truth came when I asked her to double-check what the zucchini flowers were stuffed with. She went to the kitchen and returned confirming they were filled with goat’s cheese — AFTER we had already eaten them, believing they were vegan. At that exact time, our “vegan” mains had already arrived, and I was left in disbelief that I had just consumed animal products after being so explicit about our dietary requirements.
When I asked for pizza boxes to take the remaining food away (which was supposedly vegan), the server handed the boxes to the other guests at our table to shovel their own pizza into boxes— completely unprofessional. In the end, we threw the food out when we arrived home because we couldn’t trust that it was actually vegan.
When it came time to pay, there was still no apology whatsoever. The server disappeared to “speak to the manager,” and we assumed they would acknowledge their mistake and rectify the situation — which they did not. We still had to pay the bill, with the only concession being the removal of the zucchini flowers and focaccia, even though our entire dining experience was ruined.
I left feeling sick to my stomach that I had trusted the positive reviews for this restaurant. They are lucky we didn’t have a dairy allergy — the consequences could have been far worse. If you care at all about being served what you actually ordered, especially if you have ethical or medical reasons for eating vegan — DO NOT go to this establishment. There was no accountability, no remorse, and no attempt to make things right. They ruined what was meant to be a special night out for our family.
An utter disgrace for a restaurant advertising a...
Read moreBooked a table for 6. Specifically chose this venue because they seemed to have gluten free options. (One of my daughters is coeliac) and she's been hanging to have Italian food. I specified it when I made the booking, I even emailed the morning before dinner to again emphasise this fact. You had the option on their menu to swap a standard base to a gluten free base which was exciting - Not! What was not mentioned is that they only have one oven for the pizza and had to check If it can be put on to a base so that it can be cooked separately. Waitress came back after 5 minutes and said we can cook on a different base so it doesn't mix with the gluten dough but there might be cross contamination with the toppings and it could be risky to try the pizza. They themselves weren't sure if it will be 100% GF. So why even offer the option! My daughter then got the spaghetti bolo gf which was not fully gf. I know this because she had to stay home on today (26th) as she was not feeling well and was displaying the same symptoms of gluten ingestion from a meal that was supposedly GF.
We ordered 4 pizzas (Tutta Carne x3 and 1x Capricosa), seafood linguine, arancini, calamari fritte, olives and a spaghetti Bolo (GF).
Pizza bases were nice but it was soggy, toppings fell off easily, the calamari had the worst presentation and tasted cold by the time we got it. The seafood linguine didn't have much seafood in it and was lacking flavour. The olives were good, the arancini were good but otherwise very underwhelming and not worth the price we paid. I did approach the manager to have a chat with him and ask him about the GF fiasco but his responses were also on the safe side and didnt really answer the contradicting information between whats on the menu and what can actually be served. The rave reviews seem to be misleading. Each to his own but we...
Read moreJust had to spead the good word far and wide about Antica in Wilston.
Made it there after picking a place on my 'must try' list for a friends celebration and have just been blown away by how amazing it was. Definitely worth a try.
From the start, making the booking the staff over the phone were warm and genuinie when they helped me to make a booking and discuss the availibility. Even when we had to make a change later they were so respectful and helpful in accommodating us.
When we arrived the restaurant was open and airy but tremendously warm and inviting. The space was relaxing and atmospheric.
Our waitress was attentive but not overly so.The perfect balance with restoring water and getting more drinks but not constaltly hovering. She was also kind enough to take a group photo for us.
The food, I mean the rest of the place was already so wonderful so I was riding high but they still managed to exceed everything else with the food. It was so incredible. A great mix of meat, vegetarian, vegan and GF options. Everyone at our table had a good meal, not a single note. The food ,starters , mains and desserts were all fresh and well made, unpretentious and delicious.
In my mind the best Italian restaurant in Brisbane and definitely a place I would recommend prioritising on your next meal out.
Head over soon for the Ravioli ai Gamberi, it was one of the monthly specials and was incredible, some of the best restaurant food I've had in...
