Eildon Hill was once one of Brisbane's best lookouts, with views in all directions and hosting tour buses (Boomerang Tours minibuses) several times a week in the 1970s when I lived at the foot of the hill. Today, due to neglect, the view towards the city is the only view remaining, at the spot Premier Peter Beattie used to give interviews on morning television. Around the other view points, a combination of exotic plants and natives growing out of natural habitat have stolen the views. Many of these plants are just weeds. It would be wonderful if the City Council or the water authority would restore the lookout to its former glory, restoring a lost tourist attraction. The potential also exists to develop some bushwalks on the slopes through a range of different vegetation types. No natural vegetation will be disturbed as Eildon Hill was a grassy hill before being excavated for reservoir construction. Update: Since writing the above review, some money has been spent adding a constructed lookout, walking tracks and improving the view around the existing clearing towards the city. Bins, a seat and shelter, plus track signage have been added. So, I will add a star. More can be done to give views in...

Eildon Hill Reservoir is a great place to just go and chill out - take a few moments out of your busy day and drive the windy road up to the top of the hill and gaze over the beautiful Brisbane city skyline. In days gone by, you were able to drive to the top of the reservoir 24/7, but these days an Indian security guard drives up the hill to lock the gates at approximately 6pm - apparently this is for terrorism reasons because back in the old days we would go up there all the time and even set off fireworks on New Years Eve.
Out the back of Eildon Hill Reservoir you'll find a lot of big water pipes that transfer water from the hill down to surrounding suburbs of Windsor, Grange, Wilston and parts of Lutwyche. Part of that area has been overtaken by housing developments, but there are still spots where you can go walking on the pipes and have fun pretending you are in the jungle. Each time I go back there it reminds me of...
Read moreA hidden gem of a lookout in Brisbane. Known to the locals as a good place to view the city from the closest high point to the North of the CBD. A favourite haunt of photographers and walkers, the hill to the top is a little steep, but well worth the effort for the resulting views. On top of the hill is a water reservoir, with some limited parking available. The gates at the bottom close daily at dusk, so don't expect driving...
