I recently visited Baaia Cafe while visiting my sister in-law over Christmas/New Year. 4 of us went to breakfast with 2 babies in Prams.
The owner and staff were delightful and arranged a great space for us to eat and be comfortable with the bubs (who were sleeping at the time).
When it came to the time for ordering, a young man by the name of Daniel served us. He was a wondering young man with great manners. He was a little nervous as he was new however he did an absolute fantastic job. He took his time, was patient and there were no issues with our drinks or food. Everything that was ordered, was delivered - some other cafes certainly need to take note of this and just because you think it’s cool to not have to write it down, you are wrong. Take a leaf out of Daniel’s book. He took his time, he listened, he wrote it down and got every order correct. Well done young man and keep working hard.
Lastly, I know it doesn’t have much to do with the “cafe” as such but I took some time out to speak to the owner. She is a wonderful lady and takes care of her staff really well. Takes time out to get to know each team member and treats them with absolute respect while trying to teach them all. The owner had amazing ethics and is changing life’s of the community giving so many people an opportunity.
Lastly, the food, wow. You will be gobsmacked out good it was.
Between the 4 of us Adults, we all had something different and it was all sensational. They even made some toast and Avacado for our two little babies.
Amazing work team and I will be back to visit next time I’m travelling in the area.

Read moreVisited this cafe on the weekend after Parkrun. We ordered a latte and a flat white (and some breakfast). They both arrived like this, and the waiter couldn’t tell us which was which.
I feel like the milk was roughly foamed and plopped into a cup. For $5.60 or thereabouts, each, it would have been nice to have some decent foam or at least see the barista cares about a difference between the beverages. Hint: there was none.
The images speak for themselves.
Edit: After the owner’s comments about simply asking them to remake, let me say this: the beverages took around 20 minutes to come out looking this terrible. In an instance where a ‘barista’ gives you something like this, it tells you they don’t care or don’t know the difference between the two coffees, it’s not my job to educate them (and the fact that the server had no idea either, tells you they didn’t care to ask the ‘barista’).
In my 20 years of ordering coffees, no other cafe has come out with something so carelessly made, this honestly was closer to something from a vending machine.
I like giving positive reviews, but your comments like “it’s a pity you didn’t ask for it to be remade” speaks volumes. Train your baristas and hold them to a high standard. Nobody just accidentally makes a rubbish coffee and sends it out like this without lacking skills or any sort of concern for customers. You’re a cafe - in Australia this means you have one main job: sort your coffee out. It shouldn’t be up to customers to have to awkwardly...

My family ordered: roasted pork belly tacos, 2 for $12 - with avocado, pico de gallo and sriracha sauce chicken Caesar wrap, $11 - crispy chicken with mesclun, bason and parmesan cheese, finished with Caesar dressing additional side of chips, $4 ham and cheese toastie, $8
I had no idea what pico de gallo was so chose the tacos on the basis of the protein and sriracha. Didn't realise until later that there's actually a pico de gallo dish on the menu - (it's a type of Mexican salsa made from) freshly diced tomato, red onion, coriander and fresh lime dressing. Overall a pretty solid dish though not one I managed with hands - I did try on the first one but it started breaking and falling apart so I defaulted back to knife and fork.
Wifey's wrap and the boy's toastie were all fairly reasonable. The chips were quite good and were all polished off to ensure no wastage. Also pictured is the poke bowl ($20) that our friend ordered - warmed seasoned rice, pickled carrot, cucumber, charred corn, cherry tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, smoked salmon and nori.
The venue is located beside the Sandgate Fishmonger, and has a bright and open interior along with outdoor seats. Decent option if you're not after fish and chips by...
