I am sad to be writing this review as Famished used to be my go to coffee and brunch spot - it was my top recommendation. However with new management the place has gone downhill. I went for breakfast here and when we arrived, were not greeted or offered a table. I had to ask one of the staff members if it was okay to seat ourselves which we had to do given no one had even acknowledged us. We sat outside to the side of the cafe where the 3 tables had not been cleared. I had driven by this part a few minutes earlier while looking for a parking spot and the dirty plates and drinks were on the table then so they had definitely been left there for a while. I had to mention this when I went inside to order before someone came and collected them and even then, the table was not wiped down and sticky residue remained. We then also had to ask for some water to be brought out to us - making me feel like I had to nag the staff for the simple thing. The coffee was okay. When I used to come here, menus would be brought out straight away as well as the water (which is also standard). The food options are also very limited now - very little vegan and gluten free food; the old management used to have great options and a delicious vegan gf omelette. It is very disappointing and this is not a review I want to be writing, however, I do hope that it gets read and that this feedback can be taken onboard to bring this cafe back to the lovely way...
Read moreMy wife and i sat outside for lunch (1pm)- the waitress was friendly but seemed a little abrupt - plonking the cups of water & menus on the table. (being an Asian - I sometimes wonder if its subtle racism... Who knows? Let's give people the benefit of the doubt ;). The karaage chicken burger was good (hard to wrong with the crunchy slaw, kewpir mayo & sweet chili sauce) . The salmon fishcakes were very ordinary - not bad but not great either.... I'm struggling to see why the salmon cakes made it to the 'favourites' column. $18 for 3 ordinary salmon cakes is a little pricey. If I was the cook, I'd be a little embarrassed pricing it at that amount, $12-14 max! The coffee was OK to good. I'd go back for the burgers, but only using the entertainment...
Read moreWell positioned in the heart of suburban Ashgrove, it’s not surprising that this little restaurant is very popular. Luckily they are well staffed with an efficient young team, rushed off their feet to serve the clientele that fill both the inside and outside. My friends and I dropped in for breakfast on Sunday morning, even though we don’t live in the area. They offer a nice selection of moderately priced meals for breakfast and lunch, as well as a large variety of teas, juices and smoothies. Of all the places we have been to, these would have to be the largest flat whites and chai lattes we have ever encountered! They are also pet friendly, which is great for the locals who like to walk their dog and please their palate at...
