WellâŚI have to say- they are obviously trying hard to outdo the extremely average local cafe scene. Which wouldnât be hard, quite honestly. At its heart- it seems the place is really a cafe, with restaurant presentation and prices. The service is good- not amazing. We had to ask for water, even though other patroons were being served hydration as soon as they walked in. An oversight- so they get a pass. The cider and iced latte were great- served ice cold and promptly. We ordered the bruschetta as a starter, and at $16 we were hoping it would tantalise our taste buds in preparation for our main courses. However- the focaccia was quite dry, and although beautifully presented, distinctly lacked the fresh and vibrant Italian flavour one would expect from the dish. The mains we ordered, again, were immaculately presented and looked delicious, but the flavours just did not impress to the degree that justified the fairly high prices. The prawn pappardelle was over seasoned, and the smoky flavoured ragout wiped out the delicate prawn flavour. The pasta was al dente, but far too much sauce. For $38, I expected better. The beef cheeks were tender, but again, lacked depth of flavour and intensity. Again- almost $40 for a dish I have prepared at home and created better. At over $100 for a local Sunday lunch for two, I think that the cafe needs to really work on their flavours if they are going to price the dishes up there with fine dining. Presentation is great, service is good, and the atmosphere is casual and pleasant, but the actual cuisine needs rethinking. We will go again, next time for dinner or breakfast, but hopefully next time they have developed their food offering to represent excellent value in...
Read moreI have given this new place three goes now for take away coffee prior to writing this review and I am really sorry, the coffee is bitter (not extracted properly). Both my husband and I have tried twice together and then separately thinking maybe they are ironing out the new machine given they have just recently opened but all taste the same. Bitter fore and after taste that I had to throw away my last coffee (sacrilegious I know!) Maybe its the beans, or our tastes (he prefers more stronger) but we have both come to the same conclusion. As much as we want to support new cafes in our area for coffee, this is not the place for us right now. They have some mean competition around the corner who I prefer for my coffee (always consistently made well). I will return again to see if the coffee improves and will amend this review...
Read moreWe celebrated my Sisters birthday mid week. I have never been to GG on an evening so was a first. The service was excellent from start to finish. We ordered some share entrees of halloumi, focaccia/hummus and the pork belly which was delicious and then a variety of mains from burgers through to the fish, beef cheeks and pastas. The menu is varied which is good for a large group and the quality and presentation was top draw. Would highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning. I was surprised that it was quiet , although it was mid week it was close to Xmas and it is a great restaurant so maybe it is not well known for its evening service. The prices are very good considering the variety and the quality of the dishes. So we had a fabulous time and everyone enjoyed their meals. Keep it up and...
