Honestly this was by far one of the worst meals I’ve ever had! Ma Chim was recommended by a lovely friend so I took my son for dinner on a Wednesday night to try somewhere different as we love Asian food.
Firstly we had Peking Duck Pancakes. $15 for the tiniest piece of duck the size of a dessert spoon. It was dry and tough and sliced into 4 little pieces. The cucumber and eshallot accompaniments looked tired and tasted old. Then we had duck spring rolls and Golden Puffs. They were just ok. The main was the worst. Actually it was truly unacceptable! And I hesitate being negative about anything, but this really was very disappointing. The Sweet and Sour Prawns. The prawns were old and stale. They looked and tasted like they were pre-cooked in tempura 3 to 5 days prior, refrigerated, and then just reheated for serving. They were dry and rubbery, tasted stale… and were really awful. There was hardly any sauce in the bowl. I almost sent the dish back but decided instead just to never come back again.
The restaurant itself lacked ambience and any sort of atmosphere. Mostly all outdoor dining and it was freezing, even with the heater on. The service was average. We were so disappointed. And such a waste of money.
I’d like to think this experience was perhaps just due to it being a quiet night, but honestly, food quality and service should be consistent any time you dine.
Our local favourites are Chalong at Chapel Hill and My Thai at Auchenflower… by far better in EVERY way… quality, taste, service, atmosphere, and value for money.
Based on my experience I would not recommend Ma Chim to anyone. And I won’t be returning. Disappointed I didn’t think to take...
Read moreI visited this place on Monday and had an amazing experience. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional, which really impressed me.
Today, I came back with my boyfriend, and once again, the food was great. However, I noticed a difference in the coconut juice I ordered this time—it only had one piece of coconut, unlike last time.
When it came time to pay, I loved the coconut juice so much that I ordered another one, thinking it was $6, but I was charged $5. I assumed it was a takeaway discount, so I asked about it. Instead of an explanation, they immediately changed the price back to $6.
Isn't it true that the price wouldn't be $5 unless I pointed it out and you changed it in your system? The female staff member didn't even process the payment through the POS system or give me a receipt, but charged me $6 anyway.
As a result of refunding the $1, they drastically reduced the amount of coconut juice I received. Just look at the amount of ice—it was mostly ice and barely any juice.
I feel like I did them a favor by pointing out the price discrepancy, but they didn’t even say thank you. Plus, the second juice I ordered was barely two sips before it was gone. The staff on Monday were really kind, but I was disappointed by today’s service.
You just lost a...
Read moreA new Thai restaurant has opened in the Paddington area, and I love the atmosphere. It's cute and minimalistic in style. Some dishes differ slightly from other Thai restaurants.
My favorite is the salmon sashimi; the salmon is fresh, and the sauce is very refreshing, not too strong, and perfectly balanced, making it easy for foreigners to enjoy. Another dish I love is the Wagyu beef boat noodles; the flavor is intense, and the beef is stewed until it melts in your mouth. However,
I find the Tepho curry a bit too heavy on the coconut milk, which foreigners might like. Overall, it's...
