March 2025. I decided to go to tapri for dinner. Me and my partner ordered pahadi chicken and paratha deal x1 and kadhai paneer and paratha deal x1 and 2x masala chai. Service was a little late, we got served masala chai before the main meals, which is not a way to serve it. Being an indian, or every other indian knows chai is accompanied along with either snacks or with meals. However i told them to bring take it back and bring it with our meals. The lovely lady who was serving us was nice and quick. 1/2 hour later we got served our meals both veg and non-veg. I tasted pahadi chicken which is their speciality and let me tell you the portion was small, chicken pieces were not even or enough for the price point they charge us. Also the rawness which the dish supposed to have was missing and there is a reason why the name is called pahadi. Which lacks both taste, rawness and looks. Now comes the paratha. Guys what i catch is something horrific and sadly being a chef myself caught my eye, is that their triangular parathas which they are serving us are Haldirams frozen parathas which you get from any Indian spice store, they are frozen pre-made and are not fresh. What Tapri does is re-fry them in oil and serve it hot to the customer. Which isn't a very good idea in the name of serving authentic indian food. Thats what i would call cheating the customers. Instead they should have serve customers freshly made parathas for the money they are paying for the dish. Their parathas are also visible in their menu images for the reference. Now because they are frozen and re fried after thawing, they do not taste nice and when they are served they are very very crispy like papadams and break easily. Instead parathas are thick, fluffy soft and nice like naan breads. Now comes the kadhai paneer dish, it should be called shahi paneer instead. As It doesnt have the big chunks of capsicum veg and onions, which is a staple of kadhai paneer dish and what tapri served us was creamy small portion of gravy with paneer thrown in to it. Now this review is getting longer. Ill come straight to the point. Their food isnt authentic at all. It looks good on instagram reels with filters on but in real its expensive, non authentic and wrongly made food is being served to the customers! And they are cheating them with dishes! On my next visit im planning to order more dishes and review again and most likely talk to their chef and managers as to why we are being served wrong food in the name to authenticity of indian cuisine! And yes its not "proudly desi" as the name suggests! Tapri please follow up on improvements as suggested! Overall...
Read moreI'm glad that great Indian restaurants are opening, in my opinion there's too few of them. And they are spread out in different places, so it almost always involves a bit of a drive. The food served here is pretty good, and it won't be long before word gets out.
We loved the chaats the most. The restaurant had sufficient tables so that when we arrived (without a reservation), there were still a few tables empty. It did get full later on. There were a few things that could be improved and make the offering even better:
Reduce wait times for food. It took quite a while for some of our dishes to arrive. Other guests were also waiting a while. Offer a larger tea serving for those who love their chai Diversify into more non vegetarian dishes Drop the Raj kachori, it was too hard Improve the falooda by adding almond slivers and other stuff. Agha juice in Mount Gravatt serves a pretty good falooda. Match the portion size of the bread and filling, in vada pav and kheema pav. The bread is too big and the filling too small. I know that inflation is super high at the moment and that's why food prices are high, including at this restaurant. But ironically, the type of food they serve here, like chaat, is among the cheapest in India, especially if you eat it in the street. Our meal for 3 adults with non alcoholic drinks cost 142$, which...
Read moreMy experience with Tapri has been amazing. Last week, me and my friend visited Tapri and our evening began with pani puri, which was a delightful explosion of flavors, transporting us straight to the bustling streets of India with its authentic and vibrant taste. The Tapri special grilled sandwich was a hearty delight, boasting two generous layers of vegetable and paneer bhuji that left us thoroughly satisfied. The Chinese bhel was a masterful blend of crispy noodles and tender Manchurian balls provided a delightful contrast in textures. The kulcha was a marvel in itself, large and perfectly crafted in the traditional Amritsari style, bringing a taste of Punjab to our table. The restaurant’s interior was a feast for the eyes, adorned with charming decorative pieces that evoked fond memories of my time in India. The ambiance was both elegant and comforting, truly capturing the essence of Indian hospitality. Moreover, service at Tapri was impeccable, with the staff being both courteous and attentive. A heartfelt thank you to Harvi, Shikha, and Riya for their exceptional service and warm smiles, which added a special touch to our...
