The food itself (butter chicken) was a very tasty mix of flavours. It was distinct from butter chicken elsewhere, in a good way, and was thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately, almost literally every other aspect of this restaurant is a disappointment.
Staff were surprised when we asked to eat in. It soon became clear why, as they seemed to lack much experience in serving and waiting on seated guests. This lack of experience extends to adult staff, as well as the young child who was also waiting on our table.
When notifying staff about an allergy to nuts, it took many back and forth conversations with them before finally needing to clarify my simple allergy with the chef himself. This was after an initial reaction from staff expressing that it was too busy to accommodate any change in ingredients. The chef, while clearly and understandably rushed, was as polite as could be expected and accommodated the change despite the busyness of the evening, which was appreciated.
During our meal another customer, having called in advance, seemed to have had his meal completely lost. Only after insisting on having placed the order and showing the store phone number in his recent call history was his meal prepared.
Throughout all of this, there was a constant bickering between staff, audible from the front, about details of customer orders as back-of-house staff scrambled to make sense of what front-of-house staff were telling them. This unwelcome insight into the kitchen greatly dampened what little atmosphere was present in the cramped storefront.
Prices were significantly higher than those marked (on google), although portions were reasonable. At the time of writing, a standard curry is listed as $16.50, whereas we paid a staggering $22.50. Steamed rice is listed as $2, while we paid $4.
Further, and most appallingly, customers looking to take home any leftovers are charged $1 for each shallow plastic container they use. This is not indicated anywhere on the menus and is a very disappointing practice to see.
Ultimately, while the food was flavourful the meal left us quite bitter. It was entertaining to watch the constant chain of disasters unravel in the small kitchen at Mumbai Curry, but that was a show only worth watching once.

Read moreI have had a lot of indian cuisine from all over Australia and New Zealand, and have had the pleasure of having many friends from India and surrounding nations, so many authentic eating/dining experiences for me. I am also a chef of over 15 years. However, I no longer work in the industry.
Mumbai Curry has blown me away with their authenticity, aromas, flavours, speed, and customer service. This place may look humble from the outside, but trust me that means they care more about the food than flash and pomp. The restaurant is very clean (including the kitchen) and by golly the food is second to none in Brisbane! If you are craving truly delicious, authentic Indian cuisine, Mumbai Curry will fill that craving and then some!
🙏 Thank you so much for the delicious meal along with the brilliant, friendly and warm customer service. You have earned a loyal customer from...
Read moreI barely ever write reviews but this place absolutely deserves it! I was left with no choice but to give this place 5 stars for food! As soon as I walked in, I was hit in the face with the most mouth-watering aroma of deliciousness! Think charcoal chicken, the best mix of spices and I don't know what else! It made me excited for what I was going to eat and made me think 'wow, the food here is going to rock my world!' And I was not disappointed! We ordered the butter chicken and it was soooo tasty! The garlic naan was divine but their coconut rice was the most flavoursome I've ever had! The shop front isn't much to talk about and it's not a place you'd really sit and dine in, but if you want the most tastiest Indian food around, you definitely...
