I booked a table at your establishment under the reservation JVRIV-W9BGR4EV for my birthda for Sunday, in November 2021 for family of 7 we were planning to eat and celebrate there. I confirmed that we have a pregnant woman with us and a gentleman who has had a hip replacement recently in our party and i made a reservation for a low seated table with back support from 1330 thru to 1600. I was even there on the Saturday and this was confirmed in person by the staff there, who checked the planner and stated that it is completely fine. We came to the venue and were told that there has been a mistake where our reservation clashed with a other birthday party that hired out the entire low seated area. We were told that we would need to vacate the table, even at that time no one else was there, noone else was eating, we were planning on getting food from Zabars kitchen (Jove is a acquantance of ours and over the years we have personally sent over 100 people to his and your establishment we had my name at the table as a reservation confirmation. But still, the management that told us we need to vacate the area immediately. At this point we were confused, as why we would vacate, if we have a reservation that we made prior for a specific seating arrangements. It became obvious that the management has made a huge mistake and that other party are friends with Jove and have come here under his recommendation. he has repeatedly said they have a reservation for more people. This became obvious that we were being coerced to leave our reservation in liue of the larger party. We were humiliated, degraded, and treated as second class citizens by your management and by Jove. This has caused grievous stress and mental anguish to our entire family, since there is really no way to re-live a birthday, a specific birthday only comes once does it not? if the booking was not to be honoured, at ANY point before we came, someone could have called and let us know so that we can make other plans, as you are aware, getting another table elsewhere on a Sunday afternoon is nearly impossible at eagle street pier. Why did your team treat us like second grade citizens, completely disregarding our booking and forcing us to leave. I called many times Restaurant Manager and sent several emails, but no response was ever received. I contacted Head office in Victoria as well, but I received only a promise that Riverland Manager will call me. That never happened. I can not believe that this coud ever happen here, in this country. They don't deserve any star in review, they...
Read moreRiverland was clearly not the kind of place that I should have gone. I'm going to give some positives and some negatives but essentially I had a bad experience here and I would caution you to consider other nearby options. Firstly, Riverlands advertises itself as a funky, casual bar with eat.streetmarket style food carts. This is kinda true, but really it's a bar with some different food options. When I went on a Saturday night it was packed full of people and there was hardly room to stand or move. My friend who was organising our function did try to book a table and was told that unless she put down a tab they weren't interested. There were a number of tables that had been set aside and that left very little space for people who weren't with a booked table (I don't mind that attitude towards customer service it just wasn't helpful to me and my group). The bar service was very good with a wide variety of drinks and very little wait time to be served. The loudness of music and "talking" of the patrons made it very hard to hear anything and I left with ringing in my ears for a few hours afterwards (Once again I don't have a problem with that). The live music was excellent - great song selection and great cover versions. The food that I got was chicken tenders and chips. It was not a great choice though there wasn't anything particularly wrong with it. Standing around to eat really did limit my options for dinner but I did consider getting something to eat on the way home. Finally the toilets. They were gross. Inside the cubicles was very wet with toilet paper all over the place. This is probably pretty standard for a Saturday night at many pubs but it was gross. The worst thing was that the bathroom didn't have a single drop of hand wash left and clearly hadn't had any for a while. This is why I gave it three stars and wont...
Read moreI recently dined at Riverland, and while I had high hopes given its decent reviews, my experience left much to be desired. The food, while commendable, couldn't overshadow the glaring issues with the service and atmosphere.
First, let's talk about the food. The dishes we ordered were well-prepared and flavorful, deserving a solid 4 out of 5. The ingredients seemed fresh, and the presentation was appealing. However, great food can only go so far when the service is abysmal.
The service was, frankly, terrible. From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed disinterested and inattentive. We were seated promptly, but it took ages for our server to take our order, and even longer for the food to arrive. When it did, some of our dishes were lukewarm, suggesting they had been sitting out for a while. Our requests for basic things like water refills and condiments were either ignored or met with eye-rolls. It's hard to enjoy a meal when you feel like you're inconveniencing the staff by simply being there. For service, I would give them a disappointing 2 out of 5.
The atmosphere was passable but nothing to write home about. The decor was generic and lacked any real charm or character, making the dining experience feel somewhat bland. The noise level was tolerable, and the seating was comfortable, but it didn’t add much to the overall experience. I'd rate the atmosphere a mediocre 3 out of 5.
While the food at Riverland was enjoyable, the subpar service and lackluster atmosphere made the overall dining experience far from pleasant. I hope the management takes note of these issues because with some significant improvements in service and ambiance, this place could truly shine. Until then, I can't see myself returning or recommending...
