Captain Burke Park, located beneath the iconic Story Bridge in Brisbane, offers a picturesque escape within the heart of the city. It's a hidden gem with a serene riverside atmosphere, making it perfect for relaxation or recreational activities.

One of the standout features of the park is its prime location by the Brisbane River. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the river, the bridge, and the city skyline. The park's spacious grassy areas provide ample room for picnics, outdoor games, or simply lounging. The presence of barbecues and shaded picnic tables enhances its appeal for families or groups of friends looking to spend a day outdoors.

For those who enjoy walking or cycling, Captain Burke Park connects to the Riverwalk, a scenic pathway that stretches along the water, making it easy to explore other parts of Brisbane. The park is also home to a well-maintained playground, perfect for families with young children.

A notable aspect of the park is its historical significance. Named after Captain Richard Burke, a former mayor of Brisbane, the park pays homage to the city's maritime heritage with informative plaques and displays. The Story Bridge above adds an architectural grandeur to the park’s surroundings.

However, parking can be a bit challenging during peak times, as spaces are limited, especially on weekends. Also, while the park is generally well-maintained, there are occasional issues with litter after...

Nice little park beneath the Famous Story Bridge…

Opportunity to get up close and personal, snap some great pics of the Story Bridge…

Fun fact:

The Story Bridge in Brisbane was designed by Dr. John Bradfield, the same engineer who was the chief designer of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. While both bridges were inspired by similar engineering principles, they have distinct designs and purposes.

Bradfield oversaw the Story Bridge project, completed in 1940, as part of a plan to improve Brisbane’s infrastructure. The bridge was constructed by a team led by the engineering firm Evans Deakin-Hornibrook. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, completed in 1932, was designed in collaboration with British firm Dorman Long & Co.

So, while Bradfield’s influence shaped both bridges, the Story Bridge stands as a unique and iconic structure in Brisbane, with its own distinct style...

This park has some great established fig trees, artworks, and steps down to the beach on the Brisbane/ Maiwar river. The path is narrow, so cyclists slow down and enjoy the great view of the river and town. There are a lot of ground dwelling birds here- scrub turkeys and ibis, so keep your dog on the lead. There is a dog park just around the meander past the Jazz Club. Currently, the board walk down the eastern side of kangaroo Point is closed for repair, so bikes must divert to the busy hilly streets, and no access to the Prawnster. The western bike track and walking path are open, and have great views to the new pedestrian bridge. Bring your tourist friends to walk from here. There is a carpark, loos, and it is flat and pram/...

This is a beautiful spot for evening outings. The kids can have a blast at the play area with plenty of rides, while you can savor a BBQ at the well-equipped station. The park is impeccably maintained and clean, making it an ideal place for a picnic. If you enjoy walking or jogging, there's a track around the park for your exercise routine. The breathtaking view of the Story Bridge adds to the charm, and you can even catch a ferry from the park corner to the other side of the river. As night falls, the decorated and lit trees create a delightful atmosphere that lifts your mood. It's a perfect blend of recreation and scenic beauty.
