If you’ve been to Paddington Curry House, you’ll know what to expect here — but if not, The Kari is well worth a visit to see why they are the sister store of the recently earned title of QLD’s best Indian restaurant.

Start with the Bombay Crunch: think of it as a luxurious hash brown layered with unexpected but perfectly balanced flavours. It’s indulgent and delicious. The Pani Puri are also a highlight — crisp shells that actually hold the liquid (a rarity), creating a fun, tasty bite that’s as entertaining as it is delicious. It’s one of those dishes that might look unusual at first, but quickly becomes a favourite at the table.

The curries here are rich and full-bodied, with none of that watered-down texture you sometimes find elsewhere. The Palak Paneer was the standout favourite at our table, while the Prawn Goan Curry was a pleasant surprise — seafood curries aren’t common, but this one was beautifully done with plump, flavourful prawns.

Inside, the restaurant has a refined atmosphere with Indian artwork and décor adding warmth and charm. The venue is smaller than their Paddington and New Farm locations, so it’s wise to book ahead. We also noticed plenty of takeaway orders streaming out the door — always a good sign that the locals have...

Unfortunately, this place was a miss for me. While it stands out as decent Indian food compared to what’s nearby, it simply didn’t hit the mark. The chicken tikka was overwhelmingly salty, with concentrated spices that overpowered rather than enhanced the dish. As someone who genuinely enjoys bold flavours, I found it difficult to enjoy due to the dryness of the chicken and the most disappointing naan I’ve come across—it was flat, more like a wrap, with barely any detectable cheese. The rice was also dry, which only added to the imbalance. Strong, intense flavours need something to carry them, and sadly, that balance was missing here.

That said, the service was excellent. The waitress was professional, attentive, and very helpful, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant.

If only the food lived up to the standard set by the service and surroundings. Dry chicken, salty curry, dry rice, and flat naan—unfortunately, not a combination...

Had a great dinner here the other day. Service was good and the curry tasted great. Was missing the butter chicken at the previous indian place which had gone downhill, but this one is just as good if not better!

The pani puri was really interesting and fun to try. Would recommend trying it.

Also got the eggplant curry which featured stuffed rolled eggplant that was great!

Got to try some free dessert - both the mango kulfi and the Gulab jamun. Kulfi had a nice mango taste without being overly sweet and the Gulab jamun was really tasty, first time trying it!

The only thing I thought could have been better was the naan. Might just be a different style and it's not bad, but it was flat. Was hoping it'd...

Stumbled across this restaurant looking for somewhere to have dinner and we are so glad we did. The restaurant looks beautiful and from the second we arrived the lovely gentleman at the front counter had amazing customer service! He was so welcoming and kind, such a great energy to have at dinner. We ordered the pani puri (always wanted to try it) and it was delectable!!! One of my favourite foods now :). We also had a few of the curries and they were also very delicious, the perfect comfort food!! Compliments to the chef! And a big thank you to the gentleman who served us with great enthusiasm and warmth:) Will definitely make this a regular place to eat, cannot wait to try more things on the menu!!
