I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant but I can’t help but think that the pricing is just so over the top. They are charging $26 for a salmon aburi bowl and for the chefs special sushi rolls they charge over well $20 for 6 pieces of sushi.. this pricing is outrageous and does not seem very fair for what you get. They seriously need to have a think about their pricing when the price of ingredients used for the dish would be no more than $2.00 or $3.00 to make. Also the interior design is very weak as you’d think for the price they charge the tables and the decor would be luxury but it’s very bland and the tables are unstable and the chairs are horrible to sit on. If they fix these issues then the restaurant may see much more returning customers otherwise they could just goto Oishii or sushi edo for a better and cheaper dining experience.

P.s Owner thinks it’s okay to overcharge people for such small portions of food and his excuse is “the price of everything is going up” Oishii and the modern Jin both use fresh ingredients and quality sushi and are much cheaper than your pricing. So what’s your excuse now? The price you charge could be justified if your serving sizes were good but you literally give 6 pieces of medium sized sushi for over $23+ that is just outrageous. Stop...

Kid-free night and where to eat? Tossed around a few options but finally decided to try Tokyo Chubo. We ordered: sashimi salad, $19 unatama roll, $15 vegetable tempura, $19

The sashimi salad came with 3 pairs of sashimi pieces plus one cooked prawn - not sure why the prawn was so lonely but that's all the protein I had whilst wifey enjoyed the fish. The salad element felt fresh and we found the dressing quite nice.

The unatama (eel & egg) roll was smaller than I was expecting, but very nicely presented and the overall mouth feel was surprisingly smooth, like almost melts in your mouth.

The tempura vegetables came with a mixture of shiitake(?) mushroom, enoki mushroom, pumpkin, sweet potato, and taro pieces. The batter was light with a bit of crunch.

All up whilst the pricing was more than my usual more budget Japanese tendencies, the food was good quality and we were nicely satisfied portion wise from our 3 dishes. I would come back, but probably reserve it for the odd occasion when wanting something a little bit more special, eg. the next time we're kid-free...

The chinese female chef despite being the only person working, was most friendly and tried her best to make things happen.(note to the owners u need to hire appropriate number of staffs😊) back to the katsu meals. Been coming to Tokyo chubo since the day they opened. Lost count the number of times I have dined here. More than 20 times minimum. Started of great, towards the end of the recent brief shut down was bit average. Food seemed rushed, katsu coating were falling apart… now the reopened katsu focused meals…decent but nothing fancy. Disappointed to see bottom side katsu coating wet/soggy. For a katsu restaurant this is very important to get right. The prawns are only ok and the pork katsu perhaps cut too thinly. the cabbage could be plated on a slightly bigger plate. Would love for u guys to tweak the little things if indeed what I say is what other patrons are saying, as would love to keep coming to dine at this a local business with so...

Tokyo Chubo has one of the best tonkatsu in the south side. Very bite of this beautiful tonkatsu comes crispy and with some sides and pickles that pairs well with the tonkatsu. If you’re not a big fan of pork, you should definitely have the Tori katsu (chicken Katsu). It’s juicy and freshly fried to perfection. We have also tried the tori karaage which is pretty close to the ones we had in Japan and I would say it’s a must buy if you are not having the tori katsu. We have seen so many people have their udon and sashimi and they all looks amazing too. We will likely try those next time. One of the things we didn’t like so much is how it’s always packed, we will have to get in once they open, otherwise there’s always a wait. so be sure to make a reservation if you can’t get there when they open or if you’re in a big group. It is also on the pricier side of things (compared to other, bento, Japanese food type things). But I would say, it’s work it.

Tasked with finding a seafood-centric Japanese restaurant, I stumbled upon Tokyo Chubo, thanks to some well-versed foodie acquaintances. When a booking at Sono's proved impossible, Tokyo Chubo not only filled the gap but far exceeded expectations. A standout was the large sashimi platter, which, dare I say, was even softer than Sono's. A revelation that left me both surprised and delighted. The tempura prawn, another shining star of the evening, had me guiltily hoarding more than my fair share. The tartare, bursting with sour and vinegary flavours, was perfectly suited to my palate. However, it garnered a lukewarm reception from my companions. We also savoured the soft shell crab roll, which left us yearning for more sushi, despite being satisfyingly full. The special bluefin tuna sushi was decent but failed to inspire a second order on future visits. In short, great place to go for Japanese. Will be back for more!
