Shalom Sunnybank Indonesian Restaurant — Restaurant in Brisbane City

This guys have changed owner recently and their service went backwards really fast. Today I ordered a meal on their website and sent my 19 year old daughter to pick it up while I stayed home with a young child. Surprised she called a few minutes late saying that people at the restaurant said they had no order and rudely told her off. Didn't even bother to look at the email confirmation we had received from them. I checked my bank account and the money had come out of my account. At this stage I called the restaurant where some extremely rude female person hung up the phone on my face. So I called her back and informed that I was coming up to get my food or a refund on my card. I arrived in the restaurant after the hustle of getting the little one in the car and going there and they argued with me stating that they could not give me a refund because they use a third party to collect the money. Clearly in my statement was their name nobody else's. They argued with me rudely until a young lady with her nose pierced ( don't know names) come out and started to talk sense and calmly we worked towards a solution. Funny enough afterall they had the order as they cooked it without me telling them what I ordered. She went on to say she would give me something free but I said to her I don't need freebies and this was not about getting anything for free. This was about not getting taken for a ride and not letting this people treat my daughter and me like they did over the phone and in person. No doubt the food will go in the bin I have worked in restaurants before and I know what happens in the kitchen when one complaints. Wow what a big difference from previous management...I use to be a regular, Now I strongly not...

Had one of the worst dining experiences at this place today.Enticed by the bustling atmosphere,we chose this over our original destination at Curry Connection next door.We ordered a grilled chicken set meal and a fried fish meal.The chicken Maryland was a kids size portion served with an inedible,extremely fiery sauce,which we had to waste or risk a burnt mouth.The entree sized piece of chicken disappeared in a flash,and had done nothing to satisfy my hunger.The fish took another 15 minutes to arrive,and boy was it the ugliest fish I'd ever seen on a plate!!It had been scored from top to bottom,not just on the surface, but through and through,leaving the head,tail and 4 strips of flesh on it.Hard to describe,but think of the ribs on a bike helmet.Digging into the piece with my fingers,I was able to get about 2-3 spoons of edible fish and the rest was just the skeleton.The coconut rice which we paid extra money for was nothing like the real coconut rice we get at Thai restaurants,but rather a dry tasteless version. We both had all our rice left on our plates and requested the harassed looking waitress for some satay sauce to have with it.10 minutes later,she still failed to deliver,offering a feeble apology as we got up to leave. There are plenty of better dining options in St Lucia,and Shalom, meaning Peace,left us feeling bitter and...

Guys we eat here all the time. Unfortunately on Sunday I had the Nasi Paddang and got food poisoning. It is the only thing my family did not eat that I did. Might want to double check things so it does not happen again.

Update: It’s 5 days later and I am still loosing weight during holidays when I should be putting it on due to this sickness. Although I am very great full for your apology and offer of a free meal I think the issue for your business is currently bigger that that. therefore theses were our observations on the day we ate prior to knowing I was about to get very sick.

Cleanliness all around had decreased, table tops not wiped properly, staff presentation, etc. The guy wiped the table for us and then wiped the floor with the same cloth. We asked for a spare bowl for our 5year old and it came with oil in the bottom, we wiped it out ourselves.

Please know this review comes with the best of intentions from 12 year Shalom Sydney regular customers who were delighted to see there was a Shalom in Brisbane when we moved.
