Not coming back…sadly, because I find that the vibe of the place in general is lovely. Came for breakfast, looked up menu in advance on their website and right away ordered banana bread. When it came it was not quite as described. No fresh caramelised banana, no seasonal berries. Then I looked at paper menu to cross check and it was completely different description. But well, my fault, should not have assumed website is latest/correct, but I think it’s important to keep things up to date to avoid such confuses. That could have been worse than a mere dissapointment in case people have food allergies etc. Also $14 for a piece of bread with a spoon of ricotta…not sure it’s a good value. I like sweet stuff for breakfast, but this was not just sweet, this was a sugar bomb. Everyone’s different, so, again, have no right to complain here. Would though be nice if it’s paired with something like unsweetened Greek yogurt to balance it out. Even coffee didn’t help me… When it comes to service. I had a feeling that the guy taking my order was slightly arrogant and impatient. I have also explicitly asked that I would like food and the coffee to be served together, not separately. And, of course…drum roll…my coffee has arrived first. I said to a lovey lady that brought the coffee that I have asked it to come with food. And I have been told “oh, we can’t actually do it, we are 2 different departments”…well, shouldn’t then I have been told about it by the guy who was taking my order? No problem, fair enough, I would have just ordered separately after my food is on the table, but he hasn’t even mention to me it could be an “issue” when I was ordering 🤷‍♀️ Disappointed… not the best start for the day ahead…

Not that great considering the high expectations I had from what others had told me. Was also quite annoyed that my wife is clearly pregnant, we were waiting for a table in the rain and a few of us waiting, clearly saw that some friends jumped the queue and were seated before people that had been waiting longer. Got the signature bacon and eggs which I felt had a bit too much going on with the dill, feta and chilli mixed in with the eggs. The coffee was pretty good as I got the batch brew but the spiced chai my wife got was way too spicy and had a lot of sediment at the bottom which wasn’t enjoyable. All in all I was expecting better and maybe I just got them on a bad day, was a shame considering the long wait that I hoped would be worth it.

Maybe.... Just Maybe this is the best breakfast i have had my entire life. There comes a day where my tasting senses will fail and hope in breakfast will seem lost... But it is not this day... And hour of cereal bowls and shattered poached eggs but it is not this day!!! This day i ate perfect poached eggs with the tastiest avocado a long side sourdough bread fresh from the oven and to top it off a pour over v60 Columbian brew with washed Geisha beans. Truly a good day in which i will remember for a long time. When that sun hits your face while sitting at the Bayleaf cafe it is as if time stands still like the moon the stars and the whole galaxy suddenly gathers in perfect symmetry. I believe i finally understand the words of William Wallace when he speaks about FREEDOM because the food of the Bayleaf cafe symbolizes that very freedom it captions the essence of it with all the amazing flavours they have to offer. Today was a good day a great day in the name of food i salute this cafe. I truly hope that this food journey in which the Bayleaf cafe has embarked on will continue and thrive. You deserve only the best of customers and the best of luck to you onwards. Sincerely Peter Axelsen // local...
