Poor service from start to finish, entrees were good but the mains were terrible. I tried to raise the concerns with the mains and did not finish them but they fell on deaf ears and I felt robbed by the prices for the quality of food and service we received.
We arrived on time for dinner on 30/12/2023 and were greeted by a server, then as we were being seated the host came up to us and was quite rude saying we needed to tell him where we were sitting, I said I wasn’t sure as we were told our table was being prepared.
We were then taken to our table and sat there without being served for about 10-15 minutes and got our own water from the bar. We were brought food to our table without ordering, we said this was for another table as we hadn’t ordered yet and the server seemed dumbstruck.
I eventually got the attention of our server, we had looked at the menu online and said we were ready to order but wanted to check if the current menu was the same as online, we ordered our food with slight adjustments as the menu was different (understandable)
We ordered the focaccia, tuna crudo, zucchini flowers and oysters which were all quite nice.
We had a cocktail each, I had the Paloma and my partner had Rhubarb Spritz which were also both good.
The mains came out and they looked very average. We had the Wagyu Ragu and the Blue Swimmer Crab tomato pasta.
The Wagyu Ragu was terrible and I couldn’t finish it (the first time I’ve ever not finished a pasta at any restaurant), it was literally just mince meat and pasta which tastes like it was made by a tired parent with a picky child, there was no sauce and the pasta was ok but also quite average.
The blue swimmer crab pasta was watery and also lacking severely in flavour, the pasta tasted overcooked and somehow gluten-free like (devoid of flavour or substance). The crab was small in portion and the sauce just tasted like some cherry tomato’s had been briefly tossed in a pan.
We also had the leaf salad, this was fine.
We were not checked in on by any servers after the mains came out (perhaps they were tired or ashamed to serve the food I don’t know), I wanted to raise my concerns but no one was there to listen. The same server who brought the wrong food to our table initially eventually came to clear our plates, it must have been his first day on the job as when asked how everything was I said I liked the entrees though was extremely disappointed by the mains, he awkwardly replied “oh I hope the rest is good” and walked off with the plates, before he left I asked for the bill. He came back to bring water to see we had gotten our own and I again asked for the bill.
Our original server came to do the rounds for desserts, he walked up sheepishly and placed a dessert menu asking if we wanted anything sweet i immediately replied "no just bring me the bill", audibly frustrated.
Our server came back in about 5-10 minutes with our bill in hand, though stopped to chat to a colleague on the way for a while before bringing me the bill. Our server did not ask how anything was or chat at all, he placed the eftpos in front of me like a mute and I selected the 'no tip' option when prompted. We paid and left disappointed.
I would be disappointed with this service and food (mains) at a small country pub (where I've had better food served to me) let alone a venue marketed as fine dining and costing approximately $230.00, paying $40 per main was the real insult.
I will not be returning and whilst the entrees and cocktails were good (and i cant speak for the rest of the menu), i would steer clear of the 'Wagyu Ragu' or the 'Blue Swimmer Crab Pasta' and hope their...

Read moreAlright folks, gather around, let me tell you about the time I found the Holy Grail of Italian cuisine, and guess what? It wasn't in Italy; it was in Byron! Yeah, you heard me right. As a Melbourne native, where the coffee is snobby and the food scene is like an episode of 'MasterChef' on steroids, my taste buds have become, shall we say, a bit high-maintenance. So, imagine my shock when I stumbled upon Pixie in Byron and my culinary world got turned upside down.
The service? Imagine being treated like the long-lost member of an Italian family you never knew you had. The wine? Let's just say it had me speaking in fluent Italian, or at least I thought I was (the jury's still out on that one). And the food? I'm pretty sure I saw the heavens open up with each bite. It was a religious experience, to say the least.
But wait, there's more! Enter Simone, our waiter for the evening, who was the embodiment of 'cheeky Italian' charm. This girl could probably sell ice to Eskimos and make them feel like they got a good deal. She made our night not just fun, but super fun. It's like she had a PhD in Banterology with a minor in Charm.
So, if you ever find yourself in Byron, do yourself a favor and visit Pixie. It's an order, not a suggestion. And if you don't enjoy it, well, you might want to check...
