PappaRich Cockburn — Restaurant in Cockburn Central

(July 2023) A bit of an older review so take it with a grain of salt if needed.

First off I just want to say that I personally don't think the portion and quality that you get from the price you pay is worth it which is why even though I put all the metrics 4 stars, I bumped the overall rating down to 3 stars, as there are better places to eat which serve better quality and/or portion sizes for around 2/3s the price.

I ordered the Char Kuey Teow and the Roti Canai with Curry Chicken.

CKT: If you've ever been to Two Hands Noodle, the CKT is very similar to theirs in the sense that they use thin noodles rather than the normal thick ones, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. If you're not a thin noodle enjoyer, all I can say is that it grows on you as I too wasn't the biggest fan at the start. That aside, the CKT was really, really good. This was probably one of the best, if not the best CKT that I've had in Perth. The wok hei is there and the portion isn't bad at all. The prawns were quite good and just overall not bad.

An improvement that could be made is that they don't ask for spice level, so I felt the CKT lacked spice, which is fine, especially because it felt like the restaurant is slightly catered towards a Western audience. If we could've gotten some chili oil or lao gan ma, it would have been much much better in addition to how good it already was.

One thing to note is that I generally don't ask for pork lard in my CKT, and noticed that theirs had pork lard, so for future reference, if you're also not a fan of it, ask them to remove it beforehand, but again, it is a common addition to many CKTs.

Overall the CKT was a strong 8.5/10.

Roti Canai and Curry Chicken: One thing I've noticed is that the quality of the chicken curry varies quite a lot. From the 3 times that I've ordered it on 3 separate occasions, my notes are as:

The first time I had their Roti Canai and Curry Chicken, it was like the greatest thing I ever had, since the Roti Canai was very nice, very Garing (Crispy), and the chicken was insanely good as it was so tender and flavourful. The second time that I went, I had to order it again because the first time was so good, but the quality was so much lower and it was just really bad in general. The third time which is this time now, it wasn't bad at all. Although it doesn't beat the first time's one, it was overall pretty good, but the roti canai could've been a lot better since it was as "fluffy" as expected which it wasn't really at all, but still pretty pretty good overall.

Not sure if they still have it running, but the one time I'd recommend coming here for value is if you have the Entertainment Book app and they still have the promotion running which gave a 20% off on the bill discount which made it more value. But I'm not sure if they still have this tie in with EB, but it could be something to check out.

Overall, if you're looking for some good Malaysian food, and aren't afraid to dent your pockets for a meal a bit, I would recommend PappaRich for their fairly authentic and hearty meals. Worst PapaRich experience ever, I went for dinner last night with my friends and family, after we place our order, we been advise the place has ran out of biryani rice and they will replace to normal one, they only have one serving, we said ok . but when the food was served, everything seems to be raw and cold, we didn't realise until we tasted . the biryani rice were raw , may be it was the last serving as they said . the other rice was fine but the mutton with it was bit hard to chew. I know we were late , we reached at 08:40 pm but I believe if you are a good restaurant your quality should not change regardless of time. or you can just simply say no we are close for the day . Water was not served, there was no tissue, we need to ask for water and also for tissues and every time they come to serve us they were not happy about it.

but the most annoying and unacceptable thing was that the moment they serve us and we didn't even start eating , this waiter comes and ask can we settle the bill, I mean which place in the work ask for it , if you policy to pay first and than eat than you should be telling your customer , I been to paprich Cannington one and I always have an amazing service, everything was perfect but yesterday was my biggest mistake to go to Cockburn outlet. I normally to give feedback but as each one of us tummy is upset today and hearting I believe its my responsibility to put this out there, also I just cannot forget when this waiter came and ask the money upfront . was so rude . I hope you will take this in a constrictive way not as a complaint and train your staff and I want you to grow . May be it was a bad day for your staff or they may want to go home on time , but please put rules in place, as in times that after certain time you will not take order. you close at 9 and we were there at 08:40...

Went there for dinner with a couple of friends today. We had coupons where we pay $10 for any rice dish that we ordered. We showed the coupons to the guy when he took our orders and he said that we just need to present the coupons at the cashier. After we finished, we proceeded to the counter for payment. We were served by a girl named Ally and she said that the $10 coupon can only be used on the “R” code rice dishes but not other rice dishes from other categories. When we explained that the coupon states that it is for any rice dish and there weren’t any terms and conditions specified, she became very defensive and wasn’t apologetic at all. She replied that “all the staff are aware of it”. But the customers are not aware of it?? We are a group of highly educated professionals and we are not going to argue about the extra $7.50. A sincere apologize and agreed to reflect this to the management is all we, as customers need as an explanation. One thing which doesn’t make sense was some of the more expensive rice dish has been discounted to $10, but 1 of the dish which does not fall under the “R” category but was cheaper, was refused to be discounted. I had a good read on the coupon and it does not indicate anywhere that only certain rice dishes were included in the offer. This is simply a false advertising.
