We had heard a lot of good things about COPPERHEAD BREWERY, and we were passing through Cooroy so we thought we would grab some take away food.
Firstly, we asked the waitress for a takeaway menu and she replied "We don't do take away". So with that option not available, we went with the dine in option.
We ordered a Vegetarian Mushroom pizza for $27 and the Green pea falafel Entree for $17. We then asked if they had any Alcohol free drink options, as there were none listed on their multiple page drinks menu. The guy serving us, which I assumed was the owner, looked surprised to hear that not everyone wants to get drunk at 3:00 pm in the afternoon! It turned out they did have some sober beverage options and we ordered a generic ginger beer and a lemon lime bitters.
The food arrived all at once, and we were disappointed with the size of the pizza and the fact that it was not even made on a pizza dough base! It was actually a small, hard crusty flat bread that almost broke our teeth! The toppings were great, perfect in fact, but the pizza was lacking the essential ingredient; the dough! How hard is it to offer a real pizza base, when people are paying $27! Buy them wholesale from dominoes or something; at least offer your customers a pizza base for their pizza!
The green pea falafel entree was great tasting but completely raw after you cut through the deep fried crust! Obviously the mix had too much water content to be effectively deep fried. For $17 I could probably get 18 deep fried spring rolls cooked to perfection at a simple Thai restaurant.
All up our bill came to $59.00 Yes you read that correct for: -a piece of flat bread with some toppings on it -4 uncooked falafels -one generic ginger beer -one generic lemon lime bitters
By the way, when you go up pay your bill, they will let you know that you will be charged a $0.44 charge for using your card, so the grand total for an afternoon snack was now $59.44! I mean who charges their high paying customers an eftpos fee so they don't have to pay it!
To sum it up, save your money, try the local fish n chip shop or bakery and you will be...
Read moreSaturday, and we took a scenic drive from Mooloolaba, choosing the Coolum - Yandina road along the Maroochy River and past the Ninderry massif to Yandina, then the old Bruce Highway into Eumundi. It was Market Day and I thought a German sausage with mustard on a roll would be a nice lunch. But, Oh dear! The parking. Driving on we took the Eumundi Range Road north to Cooroy, and discovered Copperhead Restaurant. It looked so pleasant from the road, we had to try. We were warmly welcomed and seated in a table of our choice, and frankly blown away by the menu. Jen took the scallops on pork belly starter as main, and loved them. I was drawn to Portuguese Seafood, or the Cassoulet. What a choice, having spent time in Lisbon and being proud of my own Arroz Seafood Soup, based on sweet paprika, white wine and tomatoes together with any seafood from the Mooloolaba markets, and even a chicken maryland or two thrown in to take the place of rabbit, a new take on Portuguese Seafood was hard to pass - BUT I had never eaten Cassoulet - and I had to!!
Now cassoulet is one of THE dishes of SW France, the land snuggled up to the Pyrenees and even reaching over to the Basque country. Every town and village has an interpretation of the rich flavours of duck, pork belly, garlic sausage cooked in duck fat and stock with white beans to draw in all the flavours and be transformed, which is cassoulet. Mine was fantastic, it was not just a meal it was an adventure.
The recommended glass of Pinot Gris was a joy and we finished with a shared French Vanilla Slice with rhubarb, and an affogato for Jen. Only 35 minutes home down the Motorway at 110 clicks.
What a wonderful addition Copperhead is to the many outstanding eateries on the fabulous 50 kms we call the Sunshine Coast. Thanks for the wonderful attention and genuine interest in...
Read moreThe atmosphere is beautiful here, it’s a gastro pub vibe and a nice open space. We went here for a family dinner and the service was great.
3 of us ordered the Snapper special and it was extremely disappointing. For $52 each we were expecting an exceptional dish. When our meals came out, the strong fishy smell of seafood was overwhelming, which didn’t feel like a great sign.
The snapper was so overcooked on all 3 of our dishes to the point it resembled tuna from a tin, the mashed potato was far too salty and the curried mussels sauce was bizarre and extremely fishy tasting. Unfortunately we were all starving so we ended up just eating it anyway. In hindsight, I wish we brought our meals back straight away so we could choose something else.
None of the flavours worked together and all 3 of us were extremely disappointed. For that price point you expect something really tasty and fresh. Nothing about the dish was fresh tasting unfortunately. One of the people at our table did let the management know that the snapper was not good at all. I ordered a beer to get the taste out of my mouth, it was “Day of the Copperhead” which was a chilli beer that tasted absolutely amazing.
I think this brewery is trying a bit too hard to be up market and charge fine dining prices, when just cooking really tasty, fresh food would have been a much...
