Cooroy Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Queensland

I came all the way from the United States hearing all about how good Australian fish and chips were. Boy, was I disappointed. My wife and I tried calling in to order on our way home from Imbil and was greeted by a condescending and rude message saying, “If you can call in, you can drive in and order. We’re not talking phone orders and this is not a voicemail.” Still wanting fish and chips, we decided to give it a chance. We drove in, ordered, and waited patiently. They didn’t call our number while we were waiting out front and had to go to the counter and ask if our food was ready. We were confronted with a rude staff member asking, “Did you not hear your number?” We got the cod dinner for two, or whatever they call it, some fish nuggets; and some seafood sticks. The chips were under-cooked and flavorless and the fish was soggy and practically inedible. I’d be embarrassed if I was associated with this “Fish & Chips” shop because they can’t even make what’s literally in their name. It’s a shame such a long-time successful establishment hasn’t taken such a downfall after changing hands. Shame, shame on you all

We have eaten here a few times and everytime we have been disappointed. The chips are not very nice, the fish was rubbery and not fresh. The beef burger we could not even eat. The patty was tasteless and watery, the tomato was green and hard with no flavor and the bun dry and not even buttered. The dogs enjoyed it though. Im not really sure why there are so many good reviews on here. We won't be eating here again unfortunately. I don't like to be negative but hopefully some honest feedback will maybe help to improve the quality of food served here. We would like to be able to support local businesses but it is a shame when it appears fresh quality food is not...

We go there regularly and usually they're a hit, they use quality ingredients for sure but when they're a miss, which is fairly often these days, then they're a real flop. Everything is soggy and you ask for extra chicken salt and then get no salt at all, they do this a lot and that gets frustrating. The standards have dropped in recent months for sure, not sure if it's a change of owner. I tried to tell them once and they got a bit annoyed with the feedback so I've written a review instead. We keep going back because when they are good, they're the best. I'd say you have a 50/50 chance of getting a great meal here and it's a good local...
