Junoon — Restaurant in Darwin City

Thank you to Junoon for sending the Google star rating request — I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel strongly compelled to share my experience to help others avoid disappointment.

I had booked a table at Junoon a week in advance for a special occasion: my partner’s birthday. Upon arrival, we found the venue was nearly full. Despite the reservation, we were left with two remaining table options — one by the window and the other directly next to the frequently opening front door (less than a metre away). The couple who arrived just moments before us, who appeared to have no booking, were seated at the more desirable table.

We mentioned our reservation to the waitress, but she seemed indifferent. It was clear there was little regard for bookings or guest experience. After waiting roughly 8 minutes, we were finally served water, only to then be informed that 3 out of the 7 mains were unavailable.

At that point, I made the decision that this venue was not worthy of such an important celebration. We left and walked to the waterfront, where we discovered Beef & Bar — and we’re so glad we did. The Steak is a highlight: flawlessly seared with a beautifully caramelized Maillard crust, while the sous-vide preparation ensures a tender, almost buttery texture that yields effortlessly to the knife. Each bite reveals balance — depth of flavor without heaviness, technique without pretension. The Duck Breast likewise impresses, marrying rich flavor with refined execution.

Was really looking forward to this dinner after reading reviews. Darwin needs a place like this that can provide quality cuisine.

Entree - we ordered the barra ceviche and the scallops. Both dishes presented really well but for us they both just lacked that balance. A bit more of spice would have made these dishes 5/5 and not 4/5.

Main - we ordered the duck and the lamb, unfortunately the duck was over cooked and although the lamb appeared to be be medium rare it was still chewy. Also the food didn’t come out on warm plates so they went cold very quickly. The duck for us was a 3/5 and the lamb a 3.5/5.

Extras - beans and mash were really good and I recommend that you order some extras.

Overall - place is welcoming and fresh. Staff are awesome and wanting to serve and also welcoming of feedback. I was expecting great food but I didn’t get it. If any of the meals were presented exactly the same as I received them then I wouldn’t order them again. Based solely on the food I...
