The Old Pub – Shark Bay Hotel Beautiful old pub with character, but disappointed with the meal I stopped in at The Old Pub in Shark Bay and was really taken by the charm of the place. It’s a classic, no-fuss country pub with loads of local history and a relaxed atmosphere. The walls are covered in hand-drawn portraits, clearly of locals, past and present, and they give the place a real sense of community and pride. It’s beautiful in that way. The bar is welcoming, the seating is colourful and cheerful, and there’s a great view of the ocean from the front. It’s a lovely place to sit with a drink and take it all in. I ordered the fish and chips and asked for the salad to be packed separately in a takeaway container. When I got back to my room, there was no salad at all, just the fish and chips. After waiting that long, I was really, really disappointed. I had been looking forward to a proper meal. So while the pub itself is beautiful and full of character, the kitchen service let it down that day. If they can tighten that up, it would be a perfect stop.

My partner and I were walking down the path beside the pub and a friendly lady nursing a baby Joey invited us to give her a pat. Later as we strolled down the path, we came across a lady running a cute and nostalgic shop selling interesting thrift items and handmade pottery. She later recommended us to tryout to Old Pub to experience the Australia culture. We dined in later at the pub. One friendly staff at the counter recommended The Original Pacific Ale Stonewood. Slight tinge of bitterness that is mellow and refreshing. We ordered some Atlantic Salmon and Fish and Chips. Though the Salmon was a little undercooked, the staff offered to redo another plate for us which was lovely. Just to note, this is usually normal but we preferred it to be more cooked. Great customer service. There’s also a lottery you can participate in if you bought any drinks. Get a chance to win 1k if you are lucky. Incredible place filled with stories and chatter from the locals. Highly recommended.

Brought the family here for a quick bite. The service was friendly and efficient. Plenty of seating both inside and out. The Indigenous artwork in the back dining area was a nice touch. The lunch burger (with a free pot of beer, glass of house wine, or a soft drink) was a good deal, especially as the servings were huge. Biggest Gluten Free Fish Burger I've ever had! Unfortunately, I skipped on the tartare sauce, so there was no hiding the overdone fish. Otherwise, we had an enjoyable meal.

This review is based on one individual behind the bar called Jade. What a rude and disrespectful person. Last night I had my first interaction with her where I bit my tongue. Having spent time there amongst others enjoying the locals towards the end of the night I had 2 empty cans and one I was drinking which when I said I wasn't finished she gave me a look of disdain. Tonight I have gone in for a meal and a drink. The first thing any bar person should do is be aware of their surroundings and know who's next to be served within reason. Not Jade she couldn't care less and despite seeing you will avoid you by serving anyone closest to her. The locals noticed it when they said it's a bit slow eh. I eventually said to her are you intending to serve me at any stage or waiting for more patrons to serve first. She thought it was a joke. Another of the lovely ladies working there serving meals etc had acknowledged me on the way in and even told her to serve me next as she was aware when I'd walked in. Even that was ignored.

I gave up and went around the corner to order a meal and request a beer whilst at it. I eventually went back to the bar where only 1 person was present and being served. Was I served next.... not a chance she served another and I was aware she was deliberately doing so as she gave a look my way, I saw that and walked away refusing to give more money over this bar.

The lovely lady who had served me my meal apologised when I asked how is she working here. I asked for the girls name Jade and told her I'd be leaving a nice review.

I left and went to the other pub that was friendly and full of ambience.

As someone who is here for a while and would have spent a reasonable amount of money on meals and drinks that is now no longer.

I seriously don't know how she maintains her job whether she's related to the boss or what but you won't see me there again certainly whilst this Jade is present. If maybe interested in serving locals over visitors then put a sign up saying visitors are...

We are travelling around in a caravan. We don't often go out for tea so when we do we would expect a reasonable meal. Tonight my wife ordered the lamb shanks (house special) $28.00 for 1 shank and I ordered a crumbed chicken schnitzel for $31.00 + drinks from this pub. The meals arrived both together about 10 minutes later. I received what appeared to be the size of a child's meal on a child sized plate - the chicken was cooked OK BUT half the size of other pubs and the mashed potatoes were VERY lumpy and not seasoned- I've never had anything like it served up from a professional establishment before. The vegetables were hard and not enjoyable. My wife's lamb shank was swimming in a red liquid like a thin soup- she gave me a taste and again the shank and liquid was extremely bland and tasteless. Her vegetables were also hard and under cooked. I can honestly say that you can see that there was no pride or quality checks with the meals prior to being served. It was so disappointing that we went to the IGA and bought our own Sara Lee sticky date pudding and icecream and took it back to the caravan to have to finish off our tea. I usually never comment on the review pages but I can honestly say that this has been the worst pub meal we have ever eaten. It was the AFL semi grand final that night, maybe the chef was watching too much of the game and not enough attention to the quality of his meals...
