Don't bother!
The whole hype over this place is over the charcoal cooking process, right?? One would be led to assume that includes crispy skin????
I purchased the Duo Pack and was amazed to find there wasn't any skin over the main portion of the chicken! The skin was over the wing and that was it!
This was my first visit, while down from Brisbane. Despite a few recommendations by people I'm left quite disappointed.
There was nobody serving for close to 10 minutes, with 6 people waiting in line. The staff just continued doing their other seemingly more important duties, ignorant of their customers.
I had wanted to dine in but was not asked. It took more than 10 minutes to place everything into a container, despite it all being prepared. Then, when the order was finally ready it was presented in a plastic take-away bag.
Good points: Price is average but they provide decent portion sizes (due to the salads added)
Staff seem quite friendly...
Read moreWell... I have avoided charcoal for years and today's trip just reassure my reason why. The people and place are absolutely fine, their chicken is quite nice and they are the only place that still does banana fritters with their Hawaiian packs and load them with chips. They even have the pepsicola range in their fridge đ. But that's also their downfall. They overcook the pineapple fritters to hell. And the banana fritters seem like they are cooked in oil that is way too hot. The batter is almost burnt but the center of the nana is slightly warm and uncooked. Chips are cooked a bit too long too. However, this is not just devonport but Launceston too. With chicken treat out of the picture, they are the closest thing to replace them besides L&B in Hobart and wishbone chicken in ulverstone (who have the best pineapple fritters). Hopefully they can amend these issues. I'll prob be back in another 5 or 6...
Read moreMy wife usually puts in a phone order here for someone else to pick up for us. Most of the time charcoal chicken employees have failed to write down the order asking what was in the order when itâs time to collect, the person picking up the order for us canât be expected to know that. I thought that was the point of ordering by phone. A lot of what was ordered wasnât available anymore as they were sold out by the collection time, once again I thought that was the point of putting in a phone order to save wasting time going to pick up something thatâs not available. Besides the poor service and poor management, the food has definitely gone downhill over the last year or two. Iâve gone back many times hoping that things will improve but disappointment...
