Sky King Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Devonport

Not going to lie, we were a little hesitant to try Sky King after reading some of the reviews, but it was SO good! We got in late off a flight from Melbourne and needed a quick feed. Most places in Devonport close by 8 or 8.30pm on a Sunday, and this was one of the few places with kitchen still open until 9pm. We ordered and the girl who answered was really professional. Were told it would be ready is 15 minutes and it was to the minute. Whilst the building is older, I think it gives the place a lot of charm and it shows you not to judge a book by its cover. The food was so fresh and excellent! The broccoli in all the dishes was cooked to perfection - so crisp but tender.

They’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here, but that’s what makes it so great. We had the corn soup, wonton soup, Singapore noodles and Kung Bo and they were absolutely delicious. Would eat here...

Plenty of spaces to sit even though it was peak hour lunch. Small set lunch menu unable to be altered. Ordered curry chicken - hot version with fried rice as the side. Spicy level not really present, was very mild in heat. Vegetables and chicken cooked to consistency expected. A very artificial type taste, required salt on everything to balance out some kind of preservative type taste. Curry chicken didn't taste like curry, could not taste vegetables. Fried rice somewhat tasteless. Portion size reasonable for a $15 meal however, somewhat small for a budget type food. Presentation of food quite good. Clean and well presented eating environment. Environment very quiet. Waitress friendly although unconfident in approach. Unable to produce register receipt. Very poor meal. Will never eat here again. Very disappointed. The food was great 12 months ago, but yesterday ordered lunch specials and all lacked flavour. Meals served only warm, very little meat with vegetables that were over cooked and lacking that crisp freshness. Even the chicken corn soup wasn't hot, just warm. They heated the tea pot in a microwave. Not hot and very little tea leaves. We had to ask for extra. The lights wernt turned on and we had to ask fot lights. Very disappointing. We spent $72 on lunch. It took 1 hour and 40 minutes for us to be finished served which made the experience even worse. Will not be going back. So sorry the...
