Coulda been Melbourne. Coulda been Sydney. Nup. This little stash of goodness was tucked happily away in a lane in… Devonport. I was whisked away from downtown Ulverstone ( north-west Tasmania ) on a night that folk from the big island may have stayed in for. You know, a bit of a blowy , wet and cold evening, but was promised this joint was cooking. And wasn’t it just. I’m talking of Pam’s Wine Bar . From a miserable car park, down a lane , the lights of Pam’s beckoned. It’s a tiny, happy place where we were welcomed with smiles and warmth, seated close to our neighbours. Intimate is the word. Maybe 20 seats within, a few at the bar, maybe 20 outside. But man, the service was brilliant, the sommelier ( Mitch? ) knowledgeable and the licensee , Denni (I hope I have that right, soz if I don’t ) was a ray of sunshine. The wine list , though not huge was on the money, something for all tastes, and the food…a set menu, cooked ( cheffed? Is that even a word) by Denni’s son TJ was exemplary. Modern meets trad I guess and was just, well just bloody wonderful. Music banging away, just right, food , wine , company, service? Yep. Do it. Pam’s in Devonport is a secret that won’t stay that...
Read moreSeriously I know it is a wine bar however they do cocktails as well… If you can’t make a decent cocktail then don’t offer them . They were both disgusting and disappointing. Also hospitality goes a long way with business so cool that cool friends are there but don’t forget everyone else that will perhaps spend a few dollars at your establishment. Drank the expensive drinks quickly and quickly got out of there. Yep we could have actually said something to the staff but honestly we got the “vibe” they wouldnt listen , oh a straw or two would be helpful with drinking the gross...
Read moreLove this place. I don't usually drink wine but Denni is slowly bringing me around to it with the variety of funky wines from around Tas and Australia. I love hearing the stories of the winemakers that Denni shares with passion and also the creative descriptions she gives to each wine. There are also delish cocktails too. The team are awesome and the food menu is growing and every dish I have tried so far has been superb. A very welcome addition to Devonport and I...
