Friends and we visited for Matisse/Picasso exhibit, stayed for lunch. Fish and chips was adequate, only three strips of fish for the $17 we paid. Sausage roll was great, chicken sandwich size good, flavour so-so. Roast chicken was also all right. I had the vegetarian bocconcino and pesto wrap, enjoyed it very much. Friendly service but terribly slow on a busy Sunday, took a while to clean up used tables for new patrons to use. Read moreThis "cafe" is dire. We visited recently, only because the Bookplate cafe at the National Library is undergoing renovations. There was a small selection of pre-packaged food. I had to ask the young woman at the counter three times what the options were. She was clearly embarrassed because she couldn't pronounce "vegetarian wrap". Her colleague had to say it for her. The "vegetarian wrap" was pretty bad, basically hummus and pickled gherkins. It's a shame that a major national attraction like the NGA doesn't offer a better standard...

Even though opening hours are supposed to be until 2:30 I was told at 2:15 that their coffee machine was switched off and they had no food or coffee - just bottled drinks. Why do they close so early when the Gallery is open until 5pm? Very little atmosphere as it’s by the road.
