Located on Macquarie Street in Barton, Vincent Restaurant is a great place for a drink and a decent meal. The cuisine is modern Australian with Italian and French influencences.
The drink menu is extensive and offers everything from wine, cocktails, mocktails, soft drinks and juices.
Service is warm and efficient, with staff greeting you promptly and asking you if you'd like a drink to start.
Stracciatella with cauliflower and Egyptian dukkah is a great entree, along with mixed nuts make for a good starter for those dining with vegetarians. The flavours are nicely balanced and presentation well executed.
Gnocchi with mushrooms is a great tasting vegetarian option for mains. The swordfish with kale and lemon is also another great option for mains. There are duck and beef dishes also.
Dessert has 3 choices - creme brulee with mixed berries, grapefruit sorbet with macarons, and sticky date pudding. Whilst all dessert dishes are good, the stand out is the grapefruit sorbet. Not too sweet, good crisp tartness and a delicate crunch of the macarons with a light sweet flavour is a wonderful palate cleanser and delightful way to round off your meal.
The decor is modern with an intimate bar-like feel. This is not a large restaurant so it doesn't feel loud and rowdy. Also this isn't the establishment for that type of clientele.
A great place for a relaxed meal and drink and to spend time with colleagues, friends...
Read moreI was almost hit by a cyclist on my way there and I wish I’d let him given it would have spared me from having to experience this. I would rate less if I could. The lunch special was almost inedible an incredible achievement given it was risotto which should be impossible to get wrong. The beef brisket it claimed to be served with amounted to less than two strips of meat, the artichoke was skipped entirely and it was served in enough oil to warrant a US invasion. On top on this? Unseasoned. Not under seasoned. Unseasoned. This greasy, gluey mess left me feeling painfully ill and I didn’t finish the bowl. The price is exhorbitant for something so foul. I can only assume the reason the bar is so dark is to prevent you making the right descision and leaving without trying the food because no one in their right mind would willingly consume the pale horror that was a semi-solidified fatburg of pasta floating in a lake of oil if they’d seen it in the honest light of day. I looked wistfully at the subway on the corner as I left, knowing that it would have had quicker service and...
Read moreWe visited for the tasting menu with matched wines. The venue had a relaxed, intimate atmosphere, and the food was ok. However, the overall experience was impacted by the level of service. It was difficult to get the attention of the waitstaff, and drinks were placed on the table well before the food arrived, without any explanation of the wine pairings, the dishes, or how they complemented each other — something typically expected with a tasting menu. Instead, a dirty menu that listed the wines was provided.
We requested that the drinks be served with the food, and while the staff agreed, the wines were poured and left sitting at the bar until the dishes were ready, meaning the white wines were not properly chilled when served. Although the restaurant was busy, a basic level of service is expected at this price point. There were no check-ins throughout the meal to ensure everything was satisfactory.
After the 2nd course, we chose to leave and instead continued our evening at Louis restaurant, where we received a much higher...
