It has been a while, but I decided I had to share my experience anyway as it is a shame to not have returned to this place.
I was there for dine-in lunch, nothing fancy, just an egg fried rice, which was very good as per my previous experience at Momo.
My order was taken at the counter by a lady, paid, and was seated for 40 mins, when my order finally arrived. The lady next table too asked how the dish was, but said she wouldn't wait for 40 minutes doesn't matter how good the dish is.
I finished the meal, went out the door, went about my way. As I plugged my earpods on, I heard someone running after me towards the lightrail stop - turned out to be the lady behind the counter, shouting "Sir, sir - did you pay for the meal?" It was right in the middle on Gungahlin town and a bit embarrassing. Then I replied to her saying that I did, and I picked up my phone to show my banking app for the payment confirmation. And then she seems satisfied with my response and headed back. It was very weird, very awkward.
As much as I loved their food, and being ready to try their other choices in the menu - I don't feel like returning nor recommending Momo's house to my friends. Just because the lack of professionalism. It's not the customer's responsibility to confirm whether they have paid and wait to be served, and by no means wait for 40 minutes just for a single dish of fried rice for one...
Read moreThis place has been open only 3 months or so. It offers momos with a bunch of different fillings, cooked in a few different ways ( steamed, pan fried, fried, +/- sauce). They also have fried rice, chow mein and sausage.
I didn't order momos because I didn't want a large quantity of the same type of momo. I wish they had a mixed platter with a bunch of different types.
Which is why I ordered the chicken set ($17)- this turned out to be a mistake. It came with (flattened) beaten rice which reminded me of baby cereal. The lady was kind enough to get me some plain 🍚. However please note, plain rice is not an item on the menu.
It tasted a lot like home cooking, which was refreshing The spices used were different and took some getting used to, especially in the mixed potato fry. The chicken fry was salty, the peanuts sour, but if you mixed them both, it was well balanced. More veges or more gravy with the set would have been nice. The waitress did offer chutney but I didn't feel like pickle.
The mango lassi ( $8) was exceptional. The yoghurt had a nice tang, and it had just the right amount of salt for balance. The freshly squeezed juices also looked good ( $7)
It's fine for a quick lunch. There are many 5 star reviews by others. For me, it didn't quite...
Read moreHello,
I am leaving my first review (down below) so that I can let you know that even though I had a less than satisfactory experience, this establishment went above and beyond to make my order right. Even though it was 2 weeks later and Uber Eats had refunded me on the previous order, when I ordered again, they went to the trouble to call me and insisted that they would send me double what I had ordered to make up for the previous mix up. How awesome is that. Now I can eat the most delicious fried rice and Momo and leave a great review. Thank you so much!
Thank you for Canberra Momo House.
Highly recommend!
First review - they made it right though. Read above.
Ordered chicken fried rice via Uber Eats. Food, while delicious, was only half as much as when I have ordered in the past. The excuse was they ran out of large containers. Surely you’d send the correct size serving of food in 2 containers and not still charge $22.50 for a half serving. $22.50 for some rice. So disappointed. Update: thankfully I was given a refund from Uber due to the inaccurate...
