I’m hate ragging on small businesses, but at these prices CocoNine really needs to step up its game. From what I've seen of the old reviews, their food used to be excellent, but our recent takeaway didn’t measure up to what places like Thai Herb, Little Siam, Kinn Thai, or Thip Thai are doing. If you're going to get fleeced, then get fleeced properly at the other Thai restaurants.
Pad Thai Decent portion size and flavour, but it was all so gluggy with tamarind sauce and soggy noodles. I can make better pad thai at home and I'm not a professional chef.
Pork Belly Bites The biggest let-down. Mid-$20s for barely half a takeaway box? You can get a packed container of crackling pork from Jade Dumpling House or Lolo & Lola for the same money. This felt like a kick in the guts and everyone at dinner was like WTF at the portion size.
Red Duck Curry Fair enough - nicely flavoured and decent amount of (canned) lychees and duck. The most solid takeaway dish that night.
I get that rising costs squeeze every restaurant, but cutting corners on the basics and squeezing customers completely erodes the value. CocoNine is right up the road, but sadly we probably won't...
Read moreMy family absolutely loves this place! I take my two year old daughter here often because she absolutely loves the fried rice.
Besides the fried rice being a staple when we come the other dishes we've tried have always been top notch. Notably the massaman curry, being rich in flavour and with meat that's quite tender. The cashew nut stir fry with pork is my wife's absolute favourite. Their satay chicken skewers are also on another level, as there is a slight char to them that elevates the flavour.
The staff are always attentive and polite and always bring our daughter her own set of fun plates and cutlery. It's just all around good vibes, very comfortable seating and always a good playlist on to set the mood.
Finally, give their vanilla Panna Cotta a go if you're after something sweet. It's incredibly balanced in flavour with a texture that's just so beautiful.
No regrets coming here....
Read more🌟🌟🌟🌟 Coconine Gungahlin is one of the most impressive Thai restaurants I’ve tried! Although the location can be a bit tricky to find — tucked away in the Gungahlin town centre — it’s absolutely worth seeking out.
The food here is delicious and full of authentic Thai flavour. I tried the Pad Thai, Green Curry, and Tom Yum — everything was well-seasoned, made with fresh ingredients, and beautifully presented. The green curry, in particular, was rich and fragrant with just the right amount of spice — perfect with hot steamed rice!
The restaurant is cozy, clean, and welcoming. The staff are friendly and the service is fast. Even when the place gets busy in the evenings or on weekends, the wait is totally manageable and well worth it.
If you’re in Gungahlin or just passing by, don’t miss Coconine. A little hidden, but the food quality is outstanding — truly a hidden gem...
