Will definitely come again, just a few things could be improved to really make it shine. The restaurant is large and modern and you can BYO bottled wine for a reasonable corkage of $7. Parking is best done in the Casey shopping centre car park and either walk through the shops or around if it’s closed. My friend and I shared chicken skewers for entree and they were terrific! Really moist yet nice and charred with a piquant dipping sauce. Would come again just for them. I reckon a satay sauce would be fantastic with them but that may not suit the cuisine. Apparently none of the dishes are spicy according to our charming waiter so we ordered prawn curry with curry and lime leaves and after consultation, steamed duck and mixed vegetables. Also a serve of roti bread (two pieces). This is where the downfall was for me, the duck had a thick, tasteless sauce (reminiscent of a chow mein style braised sauce) and was not as described at all by the waiter or the menu. A shame because the duck was tasty, plentiful and tender. The prawns were also plentiful, perfectly cooked and again unfortunately lacking in flavour. Perhaps they should consider a bit of chilli? I’m not advocating making things too spicy but the sauces/flavours with the prawns and duck didn’t bring out the best in them. The bread was very nice, so much so my friend ordered a second serving and ate three pieces herself which is most unusual for her. In any case I would like to come back and try some other dishes. Service was very friendly even if a bit misleading on the steamed duck front but we all...
Read moreMyanmar Corner is excellent for a bite. Not only are the people friendly but the food is awesome too. I've tried 2 entrees, 2 mains 1 hot drink and 1 special so far but I'm definitely coming back to try more (when my diet lets me!)
The things I tried are:
Prawn spring rolls - it's actually a whole prawn, not mince which is different but awesome!
Shredded duck and onion puffs - definitely the highlight of the entrees for me. And the sweet and sour sauce that goes with it is something else!
Ong No Kaut Swal (Myanmar style Laksa) - it's semi sweet but I like my chili. Luckily there's sriracha and chili flakes (that are actually spicy) at the ready, along with soy sauce so it turned out quite well. Plus the noodles, which are not rice vermicelli (which I usually prefer) are quite enjoyable!
Spicy Crispy Fish - this was a standout for me. The infusion of lime really brought the dish to life!
Salt and Pepper Squid - this was ok, it was slightly spicy and enjoyable but the squid erred a bit too much on the overcooked side. But still it was nice and the outer coating was just the right amount of crispness!
Burmese milk tea - a sweet hot tea, but not over sweet and is refreshing after a substantial meal!
Overall I very much enjoyed my...
Read moreMyanmar Corner was a grateful surprise. I've never checked that end of Casey shops until today. A friend invited us to go check as she was feeling adventurous (she's really not that type of foodie).
The menu was not impressive as you see the usual names and the influences from Middle East, India, to the South-East Asia. But you'll find some tempting options once you get fooled believing you know it all.
We had some Spring Rolls and the Brown Pea wrapped in Roti starters, followed by Pork Curry with Pickled Mango, Chicken Yellow Curry, Hot and Sour Soft Shell Crab and Crispy Spicy Fish, along with fried rice and some veggies (nicely grilled, not boiled nor steamed).
All dishes got us very pleased and surprised. Each one brought a different feel and some unexpected hints of flavour.
We closed with some desserts, all well prepared and served with a smile and care from Ay and the rest of the team.
We'll be back.
Since this very old review, we became regulars. We know the staff by name, have our favourite seats and dishes by heart. Our new preference is to find any group of friends who haven't tried their food and go on converting people... 😂
The goat curry tonight was great and the infallible...
