the staff at this cafe need to be commended for their hard work and professionalism during difficult situations. From what i understand this is a family run business and they have no previous experience in hospitality. just a passion for people and books. i am a regular as they are alwaamazing. as they are so new and fully packed out every day sone days there may be a little bit of a wait. which anyone who works in hospitality would understand happens all the time when the place is so popular. I was here again today around lunch time enjoying my amazing food and coffee, which took about 20 minutes for me which isn’t bad at all, especially since it tasted so good. But unfortunately my experience was ruined when i overheard the table i was sat next to making horrible remarks about the staff. i would understand if they were just questioning where their meal was (however i was told there would be a half an hour wait on food/coffee so i assume they were told the same). but no. the comments i heard were nasty, personal and outrageous commenting on the looks of the WONDERFUL KIND HEARTED STAFF. I was so appalled i had to let the staff know and it brought one of them to tears. the owner went over and politely tried to sort out the situation and the people just laughed and continued to be rude. (i was sitting right next to the table). when they left someone went to the owner and lied and said that nothing was said. they couldn’t even take accountability. I am so disheartened by this experience and i really feel for the AMAZING staff. They were doing their best and doing it with a smile and polite attitude until this incident. Also couldn’t believe my eyes when these people were letting their children tear up all of the menu’s on the table. I hope whoever these people were read this and you are ashamed. imagine if you were in this situation. or your daughter or wife. have some compassion. I just need to reiterate that i have absolutely 0 complains about the staff, food or drinks, everything is always amazing for me. i will continue to go back every week happily and i hope to never see that awful group again. KEEP IT UP PULP BOOK CAFE YOU...
Read moreWORST service ever received in the restaurant. Booked table for 21 people and requested the table near kids play area in person and ahead of time. However, 3 small tables were reserved for 16 adults and 5 kids, far away from the requested area. When we asked if someone can assist? The manager rudely told us to find someone from the floor and did not offer any assistance. We organised extra tables and chairs ourselves. On top of that, they asked $1.50 extra charge for each dessert plate for cake. Bad food quality and worst service. Overall they ruined our special day. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Reply to the Manager: I must admit that the lady on the floor who helped us packing food and cleaned the table for us was the only ray of sunshine in your restaurant. I reiterate the other facts We have never been told to submit our request via email. We booked it in person. It was a verbal agreement. Funny , nobody told us to go back and request the same thing in an email as well. Yes, our guest had a good time because we have been a good host. We didn’t mention your behaviour and how upset we were to them. We even blamed heat for inviting them over to our home for cake cutting. Yes we wrapped up our decorations and cake and went back home because we couldn’t tolerate your attitude. The amount for extra plates wasn’t much but nobody mentioned it earlier, not at the time of booking, nor when we deposited cake in the morning. The humiliation was our issue. Yes, we took food home. If you have noticed there were 3 large boxes of leftovers. It reinforces my claim that we didn’t enjoy food. Unfortunately, we do not waste food in our culture. Mum insisted. I ensure you that we didn’t throw it. This feedback is purely based on our experience on 10th March. Mainly we did not like your attitude. You agree with us or not that’s...
Read moreBack in the States, my absolute favorite thing in the world was to set up in a little corner of a local cafe and do some work. Finding that same kind of feeling in Canberra has been hit or miss. You might find a place with great ambiance but the food is just so-so or vice versa. So to say that Pulp Book Cafe nails absolutely everything I love in a cafe is a double-edged sword. First, I’m letting people know about a place with amazing food (have you tried the chips?). With an incredibly kind, thoughtful, and awesome staff (who put secret spices that make you crave their chips). And with an overall charming, cozy, and welcoming cafe that has a legit fireplace and a great and growing selection of books (not sure if there’s a cookbook with a recipe for their chips, but if there is you should buy it!) But secondly, I’m letting more people know about a place that I love which will make it far more popular and they’ll probably run out of their chips when I try to order when next I go, which is often! (Seriously, try their chips) That’s, of course, not a bad thing, more people should find and go to this gem in Gold Creek.
I go there a few times a week now, their menu is great (have I mentioned the chips?) and they’re always adding something new. There are few places you can go to that make you feel like you’re genuinely welcomed. The other day I saw a couple of guys playing guitar, today I saw a woman crocheting near the fireplace, and just walking up to the counter you can see handmade pens being sold by a local guy and drawings from kids on the wall. Everyone should experience that feeling. And their chips, you should definitely experience...
