A family's residential home converted to a restaurant. Meals are slow to come out and I wonder if they are yet to change the fitout to a more commercial kitchen.
The inside is not my style, but it is dark and filled with all sorts of artwork and knick-knacks ruggedly put together. This works in their favour as it resembles some sort of bazaar in a faraway place, yet feels homely. Bad lighting becomes mood lighting. Insects buzzing round add to the ambience. ( Not flies).
As the only Persian restaurant, they don't have much competition. Iranians craving as taste of home will want to check this out at least once. As someone with no knowledge of Persian food, I can only compare it to Turkish and Afghani cuisine.
The menu is concise and easy to order from. The meals are overpriced at $30 to $35. We ordered some sides also. They might benefit from the addition of some more entrees or starters. They did have something, but they resembled sides rather than starters. For the business owners, I think they should stop thinking of themselves as home cooks and go all out as a restaurant/ business. It's like they have one foot in and one out.. Something like that. They don't seem to have expanded their catering side but at least they have some Deliveroo meals going out.
Service was reasonably good, but not excellent.

Read moreThis restaurant needs serious help, don't bother until they make some serious changes. The restaurant was excessively cluttered and lots of dust covered most of it. I found my self seated on a scratchy carpet spread across the length of booth. Several of the dishes we enquired about were unavailable and the vegetarian dishes provided no information regarding what they might contain. We ordered two mains to share between 4, and were incredibly underwhelmed. Not a single item was hot, it was all warm and chewy; the roasted tomatoes did not even manage warm. Which left us wondering how much wasn't just reheated. The salad vegetables we ordered was old and drowned in dressing in an attempt to cover it. Our pastry desserts were served stale. The best dish was likely the ice cream, which was presented beautifully, however the overpowering flavour was the scented water. The serving people were nice enough, however the man serving out front in 'covid mask' and gloves I found to be very disconcerting. On a Saturday night, while we were there was only 4 tables holding a total of 14 people, which is the only reason I can find to explain the price of the food which was exhorbatant for what we received. $41 for 3 kebabs tells me the restaurant has a huge problem, but can't...
Read moreI have visited this place many times, and while the owners are lovely, the food quality is consistently disappointing, particularly with certain dishes. For example, the Koobideh is overwhelmed by turmeric, which many customers (myself included) have mentioned to the owners. The excessive turmeric completely overpowers the flavor, and everything on the plate turns yellow, which speaks volumes. Please just follow the original recipe for Koobideh, what you are selling is not Koobideh!
Given the prices they charge, among the highest in Canberra, more expensive than those high-end restaurants in the Kingston Foreshore, the taste and quality really need to be reconsidered.
The attached supermarket is a nice addition, but some of the product prices are quite unreasonable for the quality offered. Today, I bought a Sohan, and I was very disappointed when I opened the box, especially considering the cost.
As the only Persian restaurant in Canberra, I genuinely hope the owners will revisit their recipes and improve the quality of their food. Otherwise, they risk losing their loyal,...
