I have never felt discriminated in Australia until I walked into this venue. I walked in with two other guest 10 minutes before there closing time and immediately felt unwelcome. The gaze from the staff, the chef, and the manger felt extremely unpleasant. When directed at us it was often accompanied with a shaking of the head, as to reiterate the fact that we were not welcome. I suppose the reasons behind such behaviour are two.
Firstly, the fact that we walked in close to closing time. Well, I have years of experience in the hospitality industry and, when I felt tired or didn't want anyone else to come in the venue too close to the closing time I would put up the close sign, or lock the door, or tell them that unfortunately we had stopped the service. But I would never take someone money and then stare at them until they leave.
Secondly, now I work for a not for profit organisation that helps people with mental disabilities engage in the community and overcome their daily challenges. I was there with my line manager and one of our young clients. I believe that my client presence was the real problem there. He is a young man with some serious mental health issues whom I was introduced to for the first time by my line manager. As the client is new to Fremantle, we thought that meeting at a cafe would encourage him in discovery his new community. Well, we definitely chose the wrong place to start.
What really upsets me, is that while I was walking out I even said "thank you for letting stay us a little bit longer". Well, that didn't go well either...
I'm sorry guys, but working in the hospitality industry means to be hospitable to the other. I understand, you might all had a very long day and just wanted to go home... Well, if you really want to kick people out I suggest to open an Irish pub and hire a bouncer, maybe as a business it would suit you...
Read moreThis was the second and last visit here. The customer service is severely lacking. The staff always seem completely uninterested in their jobs and didn't greet or acknowledge us. My order was incorrect and when I politely pointed this out the old lady with glasses was dismissive and didn’t even apologise, let alone offer to fix the mistake. She was completely inhospitable she acted as if I was inconveniencing her just by being there and seemed annoyed when I asked a simple question about the menu. The space itself is incredibly cramped. The tables are packed so closely together that it was nearly impossible to move around without bumping into other customers. I understand it's important to support your local businesses, but the level of indifference and lack of basic customer service skills from staff who are fully grown adults is shocking. I understand hospitality work can be stressful and competitive at times but that's the nature of it. You are clearly in the wrong business, no passion or friendliness at all! There are plenty of other options nearby with a much warmer atmosphere and vibrant menu like Moore and Moore, 9 Seeds, Nourish me whole foods, Da Raw! Don't come here if you value good...
Read moreGreat disappointment this morning. I know it changed hands a couple of years ago, and maybe has again? 10.30 on a Friday morning and it was empty, which should have warned me. My friend wanted a smoothie with natural yoghurt instead of Ice cream - they couldn't do it. I ordered a feta /spinach muffin - wasn't asked but it turned up toasted - and it was stodgy and tasteless. When the drinks were brought over, the waitress spilled the milk on the table. Didn't wipe it up - we had to ask her and then it took so long that we had already used a tissue to do it by the time she appeared with a cloth. Then she arrived at our table with a cake we hadn't ordered. Such a pity as it used to be a delightful place, but I won't go...
