I was really looking forward to dining at La Lune after hearing glowing reviews from my friend, who had been twice before and had nothing but praise. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to the hype.
We arrived at 7pm, were seated promptly, and ordered still water, one entrée to share, and our mains straight away. The entrée arrived in a reasonable time, about 20 minutes later.
A couple was seated next to us about 15 minutes after we arrived. They received their mains roughly 20 minutes after arriving. The waiter who served them said to us that we were patient ladies. By the time 40 minutes had passed, we politely enquired about our food. A waitress went to check and came back saying they were unusually busy for a Wednesday, though it was actually Tuesday, and that it should not be much longer. Waiters kept glancing at our empty table but didn’t say or do anything to appease the situation. A group of four who arrived 20 minutes after us then received their mains. A second waiter came over and said steak takes longer to cook, which made us feel at fault for asking.
During our wait, we watched around 15 plates of the exact main dish we had ordered being served to other tables, each one raising our hopes before passing us by.
We finally received our mains at 8pm. The portions were noticeably smaller than what my friend had received on previous visits, and the food was not hot. As you can see in the pictures below, there is a clear difference in the quantity and quality of the chips, and the steak was quite small in comparison.
Disheartened, we did not bother staying for dessert.
When we were charged, the waiter said they would do better next time at looking after us. While it was the first time they took genuine accountability, the comment felt vague and left us feeling uncomfortable since there was no meaningful exchange to back it up. The Rhubi Rhubi cocktail was delicious. We’re hoping it was just an off night and not because we are younger that they thought they could delay us and we wouldn’t say anything or expect a gesture to make amends. A night out like this is meant to be special, especially since it cost us $95 each, which is a lot for...
Read moreHad an early dinner just last night for two, (exactly 5:30pm not too busy) when I arrived I was immediately greeted he was very friendly I walked in and another waiter acknowledged and greeted me too which was very nice ~ throughout the night staff were really friendly, always topped up our water glasses, not too chatty and they approached our table always at the right time.
We asked our waitress for recommendations for entrees, one recommendation was the parfait which we ordered and it was delicious. It comes with cherries and pickles on the side and toasted raisin slices of bread. Delicious combination eaten all together. We both really enjoyed the dish.
The mains however were surprisingly very underwhelming. Friend and I were so excited to visit this restaurant and drove over 30 minutes specifically to try their steak and frites (Entrecôte) The frites were really disappointing, they didn’t taste freshly fried, lacked crisp despite how crisp it looks in photos, they weren’t long and golden they were tiny itty bits of fries it was like pieces you get at the bottom of the bowl type of deal. The fries were also so so salty. We were quite sad because we’re both fries connoisseurs lol. The steak was OK that’s all I have to say and that we didn’t finish the plate.
We also ordered the roast chicken. The chicken itself cooked perfectly was soft and tender and juicy. The sauce over the top was salty. The carrots on the side were unnecessary especially being overcooked burnt unpleasant to eat…it was like eating straw, just don’t put them on the plate.
Look, for the $$$ I can say it’s not worth it for steak or fries or chicken BUT if you want drinks a nice atmosphere entrées hor d’oeuvres I’d say totally go for it, but for dinner just go to a pub to be frank.

Read moreCame in and asked the nice waiter if they did soy and oat milk (alternative options) I have not had dairy for 6 years and I am lactose intolerant. He said that they do, so I clearly and concisely asked for an oat latte take away. We waited probably close to 20 minutes and when the barista called out I didn't hear her say oat, so I came up and asked "with oat milk, yes?" She looked over smiled and handed me my coffee. I was using my own keep cup so it wasn't someone else's. Suspicious but hopeful my partner and I left and I took a sip, I knew straight away that it was dairy and felt sick. I came back and asked again, she looked surprised and then said "oh no that has dairy in it!" I asked if she could rinse and give me the order I had paid for and she responded with "I checked the docket and it didn't say oat"
She then quickly rinsed and quickly made a new one.
I wouldn't go to this cafe if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. It seems there is a lost in translation error in their process and then when alarted to this mistake they aren't very thorough either, I judge this by how quickly the coffee was remade as opposed to when it was originally made.
Having worked in food for over 7 years I have always made a big effort for diet and allergy awareness. It is my biggest peeve in any place that exists which doesn't take that seriously. If I were allergic then something serious could have happened. I am very lucky to not have an allergy.
I hope the cafe kindly practice communication and health food and safety better in the future.
I understand that this is a new place and I also know that things can go wrong but not taking allergy awareness seriously and rechecking is...
