May Street Larder was a fav of mine for a long time. Then there was a shift of management and their best was transplanted to sister restaurant Bib & Tucker . Well, good management is not a matter of "bums on seats" which seems to be the culture of so much thought these days. Expertise is expertise and you can't replace it. Once it's gone the quality flags. I left my fav hangout for a long time and tucked it away in the attic of happy memories. Recently I returned to try their new menu. We are vegetarian, I'll say this at the outset, so choice is restricted. The outstanding dish was the "nourish bowl" which was replete with what May Street Larder nailed so well in the past: That heady mix of tart fermented umami shreds of vegetables matched with rich earthy whole food carbs and delicate colourful tasty greens, neatly smished with healthy but rich dressing of avocado blended with olive oils and was it mint? not sure. The result was sumptuous and bright, the balance was perfect. A superb dish. Happy to say, back to the old days!. Also good news is that the coffee has improved - the baristas have always been good but the roast was meh; Now it is much less meh - and so the whole experience was nice. A good place; very pleasant open vibe, attention to detail, clean...
Read moreWe went for High tea to celebrate a birthday. The booking process was straightforward, payment is required upfront. The muliple email communication from the venue, regarding their t&c stipulations was extremely wordy, bordering on unwelcoming.
The venue was extremely busy, and no one meets you at the door, and it's not signed well where to go, as they have multiple service windows.
The staff pointed out our table, to seat ourselves, and it took a while for anyone to come over and take our drinks order for the high tea. We had to call the waitstaff over to enquire when the food would arrive, as it had been more than the communicated 15mins after seating.
However, the food was AMAZING đđź lovely selection of savoury and sweet treats. We were all impressed by the flavours and presentation. Unfortunately the service was rather poor, as again I had to go up to the counter to request more tea ( it's bottomless drinks) as I couldn't get anyone's attention.
It would have been a great experience, had the service been better, so based on that, I would probably go elsewhere next time.
It's also a very casual Cafe, with lots of families attending, so you may wish to factor that in if you are wanting somewhere a bit...
Read moreI came into your store for the first time today.
I had ordered a coffee separately with my parents at the same till.
I was given a takeaway coffee at the table and my parents had theirs in mugs.
I was never told if Iâd like it dine in or take away. I was waiting for my muffin for awhile so I went in to check what was happening.
I asked the lady who was making the coffeeâs for the muffin and she said itâs been sitting here for awhile. I said oh we were dining in.
She said well you ordered at the takeaway stand so you shouldâve known. I said itâs my first time here and I didnât know you had two seperate tills. Sheâs like well you ordered take away so you got take away.
If she was kind I wouldnât have written a review like this.
I couldnât believe how rude she was to me! I work in customer service and Iâd never speak to a customer that way.
She made me feel so uncomfortable and upset. I didnât have the appetite to eat the muffin because of the way she made me feel. She was the barista on Saturday 27.3.21
My parents were asked if they wanted take-away or dine in at the same till as me.
You should put a sign on the desk TAKE - AWAY & not on the ceiling
After my first experience it will...
