Response to Owners:
Really poor response from your end.
Please let me know what false information has been spread? The fact is that your staff charged me $8.50 for an almond magic. The up charge makes it 55% more – the maths don’t lie.
Coffee costs $2 per cup factoring in ingredients, materials and labour ($30ph, multiple coffees made simultaneously = labour = 25c-50c per cup). At $5.50, the profit margin is 64%. A magic coffee is also marginally cheaper to make than a flat white; more coffee outweighed by less milk.
You cannot reasonably tell me that charging $3 more than any other cafe is acceptable especially if the cost difference is the same (slightly lower actually). And I’m comparing it to cafes in inner city Melbourne, where rent, bills and tax is far higher than in Echuca.
Also, why would the coffee increase only affect the magic coffee, and not flat whites, cappuccinos, or literally any other coffee?
Your staff member had a foul attitude, and I naturally matched that energy. Also completely fair to be upset when you are borderline stealing from a customer. But of course, as the owner, you’re going to publicly state “only bad attitude did not come from her” for your own reputation.
Original Review Terrible attitude from staff and hidden up charge (50%).
$15.50 for a juice and a coffee is atrocious.
A magic coffee with almond milk never costs more than $5.50 at any venue. There is no reason for it to cost $8.50. And up charging $3 (more than 50%) without informing the customer is DECEITFUL.
They explained, VERY rudely, that they put it through as a strong flat white. I did not order that, I ordered a magic. If your venue does not make magic coffees then you should inform the customer instead of putting through an entirely different drink that...
Read moreThis has now become a weekly staple for my bestie and I for brunch and a chat. Last week we had the pleasure of sitting upstairs in what can only be described as a comfy, warm and charming room, decorated with vintage furniture and local artists’ work adorning the walls (which is all available for sale!!) The staff are always very pleasant and the owners are amazing - always happy and happy welcoming. The only thing I have noticed with this cafe (in comparison to all the others I’ve been to, in both Echuca and anywhere else) is that table water is not brought out to you with the menus. It is however readily available and you can either grab a bottle and glasses from the drinks fridge near the counter or ask the staff to bring you some. There’s never a huge wait for the food or drinks even at its busiest times. The food is delicious, well presented and well as you can tell I really do just love this place. Everything about it just makes you want to go back again and again. It really is no wonder that it’s always busy. Credit to the owners on everything that The Wren has to offer. We’ll be back tomorrow and I’m looking forward to my almond milk chai and avocado toast...
Read moreHad brunch at this place on a Saturday at 11am with my partner recently.
Overall, ambience and attention of staff was good and welcoming however, the main attraction (food) was a letdown to the start of a saturday.
I had the poached eggs with ham on english muffins which were quite the disappointment. The yolks within the eggs were not runny when cut into, and it almost look semi hard boiled. If I had to guess, it was 3 mins overcooked.
My partner had the sweet chilli chicken tender wrap from the lunch menu. That was also a disappointment as we had paid for what seemed to be a simple wrap over aldi chicken tenders. Wedges were dry.
Moreover, upon paying, i was charged 72 for the 2 meals and 2 coffees which did slipped my guard upon paying but much later, hit a realisation that i was obviously...
