Gage Roads Brewery in Fremantle is a lively, spacious, and well-run venue that ticks a lot of the right boxes. It’s busy, noisy, and full of energy — particularly on weekends — but it manages to maintain a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere despite the crowds. The space itself is massive (I’d estimate over 300 seats), with plenty of room both indoors and outdoors, making it feel social and open rather than cramped.

The food was a real highlight. It arrived quickly, was of good quality, and reasonably priced — none of that over-the-top "brewpub" pricing. I particularly liked how clearly the menu was laid out: straightforward descriptions, no pretentiousness, and you know exactly what you’re getting. It’s casual, no-nonsense food done well, and ideal for groups with varied tastes. If we were locals, I could easily see us coming here more often.

I had the beef, and it was absolutely amazing. Nicely spiced and cooked to perfection, I ordered it on the rare side of medium, and it was spot on — juicy, tender, and full of flavour. It’s always impressive when a large venue can deliver such quality, especially at lunchtime when things are busy.

Although I don’t drink, others in our group were pleased with the beer selection, which is clearly one of the main attractions. There’s also a large kids’ play area nearby, which is a great bonus for families who want a meal without the stress of keeping children entertained.

Ordering is done via the app or at the bar, as there’s no table service. The app is fine for most orders, but it doesn’t allow for customising meals (e.g., removing ingredients from pizzas), so if you need changes, it’s best to order at the bar — which we did without any problems.

One thing to note: you can’t book tables. It’s first-come, first-served, and it can get busy. We were lucky to find space for our large group on a Sunday, but I wouldn’t count on that every time. That said, the size of the place means there’s a good turnover, so with a bit of patience, you’ll generally find a spot.

Overall, Gage Roads offers solid food, a great atmosphere, and a friendly vibe. It’s family-friendly, group-friendly, and doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. Definitely worth a visit, and if we were local, we’d...

I used to really enjoy Gage Roads, but tonight was a terrible experience.

We were a group with two tables. Some friends and I went out for a cigarette, leaving our drinks on the table since you can’t take them outside. When we returned about 10 minutes later, the table had been completely cleared, all our drinks gone.

When I asked the staff what happened, they overreacted, were rude, and spoke to us unprofessionally. The duty manager; a short, thin woman with black hair, also overreacted, saying she would check the CCTV to “confirm what happened.” I agreed immediately.

Ten minutes later, she returned saying she “couldn’t see clearly” but that the staff thought we had left. This was impossible, one table was still full of people, and the other had jackets and bags on it.

She then told us that if we wanted to watch the CCTV ourselves, we would need to call the police or “accept a schooner.” Moments later, she changed her tone, saying, “I don’t want to make trouble for you,” and brought over a pint, which she placed on the table in a dismissive and almost hostile manner. This is not customer service.

We weren’t asking for ten replacement drinks — just two. On a quiet Monday night, a professional manager should handle situations calmly, not threaten or belittle customers.

This is far below the level of service and respect I expect from a venue I have supported in the past. I left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and very...

Beautiful massive brewery right along the port of Fremantle located between the museum and Eshed markets. Fantastic kids play area with a car and boat to play in the sand pit. Food menu is a decent size with an array of wood fire pizzas, share plates and bites to eat so lots of beers on tap and a huge drinks menu. Very popular and if with children get in early (unsure if they do reservations) we went on a Saturday 11.30ish and were able to secure a seat near the playground. Other end of the venue is very much an adult area but also can have children. Food comes out as it's cooked so if ordering large amounts in a big group don't expect all your meals to come out at the same time. The pizzas look amazing. We ordered the fish and lamb tacos to share and a kids fish and chips. The kids serving is very generous and the fish was lovely in taste and not coated in thick batter. The tacos were nice but the lamb over powered the other flavours and honestly tasted like bbq pulled lamb and the fish taco was very nice but the spices although delicious over powered it tasting like fish it was almost like having chicken tacos with a softer texture still they hit the spot. Drinks are refreshing. Beers are very crafty style. We got a paddle at $15 which Is set beers (you don't get to choose) they gave a print out on each beer. Well...

Great location right on the harbour. Very busy when we visited sat afternoon but no problems getting a beer or a table. Beers were really on form.
