Myself and my girlfriend have come here before and had nothing but great service with friendly and bubbly staff and good food with quick service.

However when we went today, not only did they take 50minutes plus to bring our food out, only for it to be missing half of our order.

Then “trainee” that first served us commented on how much we had ordered which made us feel patronised, which to note we had only ordered a regular amount. Then they brought my coffee out in a takeaway cup when everyone else got mugs that came with spoons and self serve sugar.

When I asked a different lady(which acted extremely rude, snooty, and walk around which both hand up to her shoulders, no smile or speaking. Just rude replies like “a spoon?!” As if we couldn’t as for that). Well when I asked her about the rest of our order the order she starred at us and said in shock “oh even with all the chorizo on the hock” like she had the right to choose what we’d like with our food, we made us feel extremely judgemental and acted full of herself.

We got the blueberry pancakes which came out half cooked, soggy and the toppings on it truely tasted like uncooked raw pancake batter, not to mention that it contained almonds which I’m extremely allergic too but it didn’t mention this in the menu anywhere.

Overall extremely poor service and myself and my girlfriend are disappointed with the staff that serviced us (Trainee redhead, and stuck up blonde), and the quality of the food.

I feel we won’t be back going forward after this...

I’ve been a regular customer at chalkys since I’ve been at Notre dame for a few years so often popped in with friends to get a coffee. I’ve paid many times using the Pegs app at Chalkys, which is a scheme that offers discounts for students from affiliated businesses. On the weekend I tried to pay through this app like I have many times where you scan a QR code to pay from a digital wallet. But I was met with the cashier insisting I pay with eftpos, even saying I must pay this way if I want my food. I tried to explain what the app is as maybe not all of the staff had heard of it before. Still they offered no help, apology or spoke to any kind of manager to help me. They insisted they don’t use the app despite me showing my phone with the business listed and saying I had used it before. The complete bluntness and disregard for what I was saying was very off putting and didn’t bother to ask anyone higher up than them. So Chalkys, either educate your staff on what the app is and how to use it or remove your business from the scheme. It simply isn’t fair for the mostly young students who want to save a bit of cash while enjoying a meal or coffee, especially as the semester begins again. For context I work in hospitality and if a customer ever asked me something I didn’t know, id follow up with someone who does, it’s just basic standards of service to find an answer....

4.5 stars Nice food and fair prices. The only reason I didn’t give five stars was the meals came out after a long time from ordering, the table beside us received their breakfast before us even though we ordered first also the first of our three meals came out a long time before mine came out. The staff were super friendly and helpful Coffee was great and that is important! I had a iced coffee which was good too We had toast and jam which was out of the jar jam, the eggs Benny was good as was the avo smash, the big Brekky was really good with home cooked baked beans and all of our poached eggs were cooked to perfection Location is great and parking is easy although it’s costs which is no slight on the restaurant. It’s popular with bicyclists and there is plenty of room, we didn’t book and there was tables for us four and a pram. I recommend this highly and rate...

Chalkys Espresso Bar is easily one of my favourite spots in Fremantle. The coffee is consistently excellent – smooth, rich, and brewed to perfection every time. You can tell they really care about quality, using top-notch beans and skilled baristas. The food menu is just as impressive. I had the chalkys chilli and my friend ordered the huevos ranchereos – both were delicious and beautifully presented. They also have great vegan options, which is a big plus. Everything feels fresh, flavourful, and thoughtfully put together. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, perfect whether you’re catching up with friends, working on your laptop, or just enjoying a solo coffee break. The building’s charm and the friendly staff make the experience even better. If you’re in Freo and love good coffee and food, you need to try Chalkys. Highly recommend!

The food was fine. They have all the breakfast standards like eggs benny, full breakie, avo toast etc. My partner had the huevos rancheros but it wasn’t huevos rancheros it was baked eggs with a tomato sauce and beans — nothing Mexican flavoured about it. The focaccia it came with was weak. Unexpected in a nation of great bread! The seeded sour dough that came with my avo toast also didn’t taste like sour dough though the seeds were nice. Coffee was good and service was super friendly and helpful. We wanted to buy some coffee beans but they didn’t have less than a kilo but kindly pointed us in the right direction for another shop down the way that could get us what we needed. Appreciate that thoughtfulness a lot.
