We quickly enrolled for the 10am Submarine guided tour that lasted for approximately 1.5hrs since we reached the museum at 9.55am with 4 teenage boys in tow. Our ex-submariner tour guide - Jeff was highly knowledgeable, the tour was comprehensive & he was lighthearted & funny. The inside of the submarine HMS Ovens was filled with laughter that morning. We learned so much from the tour & such a tour is unique & you don't find it available elsewhere in Asia... don't think there are many retired submarines around. This submarine tour is highly recommended if you are visiting the WA Museum. It was like being James Bond 007 in the days of Roger Moore for a day. Make no mistake, join the guided tour when you are here. We left for lunch after the Submarine tour since our parking period was expiring soon. Did not visit the Maritime museum & therefore no comments available. PS: Remember to pay for adequate parking before entering the museum. The car next to us got a AUD65 fine because they probably had no clue that they were supposed to pay for parking. The parking wardens were extremely "on the ball". So watch out! LOL!

I really enjoyed the WA Maritime Museum, and would happily add it to a lost of 'Must do' things for Perth/Fremantle. It's a very reasonable entry price and the range and layout of the exhibits is very well done. The building it'self is also architecturally impressive and adds to the experience. *disclaimer - my visit was actually a while ago before Covid. The submarine tour may be closed due to Covid so check in advance* HMAS Ovens is an Oberon Class submarine of the Royal Australian Navy next to the WA Maritime Museum and you access it by booking a tour, which is an additional cost to the museum entry fee. The tour last about 90mins and I'd advise you were comfortable, warm clothing and footwear. It's not suitable for people with less than minor mobility restrictions, or for large framed people, as you'll be climbing up and down steep ladders and squeezing through narrow entry points and doorways. I really enjoyed the tour, as the guide was a former Navy serviceman and was extremely knowledgeable and ready with answers to any questions.

A thoroughly interesting museum with varied exhibits on all things maritime. Exploration, adventure, fishing industry, sporting, naval defence and even underwater wildlife. Staff were very friendly and there was also someone from the navy who showed us some morse code. They also have a preserved megamouth shark in a tank, I'd never heard of this deepwater shark before and it was fascinating to see it up close and learn a little about them. We stopped by the cafe and got a takeaway coffee on the way out and somehow resisted the delicious looking cakes. We visited today as it was a rainy day, unfortunately this meant that the submarine tours were not running. You must also visit the shipwreck museum just down the road while you're in the area!

The Wa Maritime Museum is brilliant it’s very well designed and easy to get around It’s so informative and well laid out making it fun to move around The Australia 2 boat is there for everyone to see and a brilliant video near by to see the race that stopped not just a nation but the entire sailing world Old maritime sailing ships in great condition are scattered all over the building for all to see and admire It’s really worth a visit so well designed and wonderfully maintained The entry cost is minimal and well worth every dollar it’s easy to get to and if you walk around the building you can even tour the submarine next door which is fun or stop off at the Gage Roads Brewery for a drink Great day out people try it Trev

The Maritime Museum is about a ten minute walk from Fremantle station, come out and turn right. Then it's sign posted across the railway line then turn left. It's a modern structure partially extended into the river with the submarine Ovens laying to one side (odd name for a warship). The building is just sized to accommodate the American Cup winner yacht Australia 2. The museum donates a lot of space to whaling and various survey vessels and equipment. I found the explanatury text on the light side, and the extra charge for the dome cinema inside a cheeky add on. The volunteer staff are great guys and I had a very informative chat. The in-house cafe is neat and tidy overlooking the main harbour.

Great spot to spend half a day, we took 3 kids aged 9, 5 and 4. The 4 year old found it a little boring during the normal session. And then found it a little overwhelming during the sea monsters exhibition session during the holidays - very busy. We arrived for opening time and found that to work well for parking and it was a lot less busy than 2 hours later. Clean toilets, but very small - trickyto take little kids to the toilet, let alone a pram if needed. Plenty to look at. Small cafe inside. And an expensive but fun gift shop. Very limited parking directly in front of the museum. Able to take your own food/drink - just can't consume it in the exhibition areas.
