Did you even go to Perth if you didn't go to Rottnest? 🥰 These guys were the highlight of our two week Australian tour (though we actually only left the conference centre in two states). 😅 . A day-ish at Rottnest to see all the quokkas! Alas we went in the morning (like tourists lol) and there were a couple here and there planted on main street. We took the air conditioned mini bus tour (not the hop on and off bus) with Glenn and had a great time. Can't wait to return in the afternoon. . 🛥 Ferry - @sealinkrotto. 1.5hr ferry from the city, or 30mins from Fremantle - where we stayed and highly recommend. . When you first arrive on Rottnest there's the main area, some not so nice beaches, info centre and the main street where all the food and an IGA is. . 🚌 Bus Tour - Rottnest Bayseeker Tour, ran by @quokkacoaches. Our tour guide Glenn was great, it's a mini bus with a mic so not too many people (note that we went in March 2024). We drove by many places, only stopping at a couple, enough for photos but not to get down on the sand. Think of it as an overview, to be revisited in detail later on. We drove by the old prison, the 34m lighthouse (1st with rotating mirror lights) and around the coast. Glenn also knew a spot to see quokkas in the wild! . ☀️ Day Notes - Quokkas aren't everywhere as expected. There's one here and there around, flying solo. You need to find the areas where they nest to meet a few at a time. . 🎈Tips go in the afternoon, like bunnies quokkas start their day at dusk... come 4pm+ (summer) byo food + water (maybe a picnic too) wear a swimsuit ready to go bus tour or electric bike (it's hilly) note the lack of shade, no hat no play avoid peak season nov-feb (5k people here each day) 📢 there's something about the wind - half the island is windy at anytime, do look into that . 📍Rottnest Island 🚌 Rottnest Island Bayseeker Package // @sealinkrotto // @quokkacoaches 💵 $116pp...
Read moreThe ferry and the staff were excellent, so was the Island and those great little Quokkas! But, and it's a big but; The main issue was that we had the cycles supplied by Sealink (package deal), and the cycles were very poor in quality, adjustability and safety (imo). As the cycles are on the ferry all day, every day, they were severely rusted and salt impacted. Our bikes had the following issues; Seats would not stay at adjusted heights, they slipped down to lowest level and impeded pedaling. The seat clamp fell out half way around which also made the seat swivel side to side! The brakes were debatable. The front brake on one of our bikes made the front wheel "snap" to one side when applied (I am guessing the bearings had gone). The easiest gear would not engage, and with some of the hills (if you are cycling the whole island, it is a lot of up and down riding, requiring a good level of fitness if you want to enjoy the scenery without blowing out, it required hefty pushing on the pedals (not for everyone, as could be witnessed by a number of disgruntled people along the roadside!). If I had not been handy with bikes, the experience would have been substandard or even possibly dangerous. It is a shame the experience was marred (for us and a number of others we saw/talked with when getting back on the ferry) by such an easy thing the sort out for Sealink-a minimum and easy level of maintenance of equipment. I would recommend booking the bikes from the on-island store, as they looked much better (lubricated and roadworthy) than ours. This review should have been about the lovely Quokkas and the beautiful island, but these issues need to be addressed for...
Read moreGreat service, friendly staff members. Felt safe while travelling though the sea was still a bit wavy. Booked through telephone before my trip. The lady on the other side was very friendly and helpful. Specially when I told her that would be my first ever trip to WA, she sent a detailed itinerary which was very helpful for a new person to get to know about the Rotto. Caught the 9am ferry, saw the happiest animal in the world Quokka, built trust, took some selfie with a happy fella, did the Bayseeker tour. Booked the returned ferry on the same day at 2.30pm on 12/11/2023. Unfortunately had a bad experience just before disembarking from the ferry as I was racially abused by another passenger. Chose to sit on the first floor during returning. When I stood up and started coming downstairs, one guy started bullying from behind me, started making some noise with his mouth while I was waiting in the stairs and his partner also was laughing and supporting him. Had to return to my hotel as it was a work trip to Perth, didn’t have enough time to challenge him. This incident completely ruined my whole day, first had a thought may be people of WA are racist and didn’t like me to visit there. When shared with my workmates, they said most probably that person was a tourist too like me. That made me feeling a bit better and I truely believe and wish that every tourist should feel safe in everywhere, and this incident shouldn’t happen again to anybody coming from a culturally and linguistically...
