First visit today, just for a break from the Calder. Curious "Cornish" pasty from the pie oven was definitely microwaved - flopping all around in the bag - I had to chase it back and forth to get a bite. Not really a traditional Cornish, flaky pastry instead of shortcrust, and surprisingly not filled with vegetables but something resembling pasta sauce... Although I did spy a piece of carrot in there. Unusual, certainly edible, somewhat tasty, just not a Cornish pasty. My apple cake was very nice (shortcrust pastry!) but the casing for my daughter's custard tart was seriously lacking in structural integrity. Again, tasty, but a challenge to eat. I ordered the Cronut which was full of cream with a fresh strawberry on top and it was delicious. Crispy and chewy with more than enough cream.
My husband had the vanilla slice and the custard was fantastic, but the icing on top was very thick which took away from the overall flavour of the slice.
His coffee was okay, he said it was a little bitter. I had the hot chocolate which was pretty standard for a hot chocolate.
