Unfortunately my experience here did not stack up against the claims of friends to visit, after being seated at a dirty table, next to a dirty wall encrusted with old food, our view that of the street through dirty windows, we experienced an array of food that felt like it was rushed carelessly, I ordered the Mr Big, a big breakfast where the bacon was dry and flavourless, the eggs too but were smothered in paprika to hide this, the toast was soggy on the plate, not that you'd be able to cut through it using the dullest knife I've ever experienced, the top kransky was covered in oil to the point it was dripping yet the second was completely dry, and the potato hash brown cube was more akin to the top of a potato pie and not cooked particularly well in the middle, unfortunately I doubt for the money spent I will return.

Our 3rd visit to the jolly miller in Gisborne and once again this place has delivered. Great hospitality, amazing food and the service is 2nd to none. The manager Jason came out to say hello and make sure our food was ok and that we were happy. It is always a pleasant experience every time we visit this place. We drive 45mins just to come here and eat because rarely do you come across a Gem like the jolly miller 5 stars for sure.

Wonderful brunch had at the Jolly Miller. Comfortable seating outside with heaps of room for us and the dog, friendly staff and very delicious food. I ordered the Atlantic which included salmon, cucumber slices, smashed avo, poached eggs, hollandaise, potato rosti and I added extra halloumi. I will definitely return and more than likely order the same dish because it was that enjoyable. Great work and compliments to the chef!

The Jolly Miller certainly isn't what it use to be. For two decades it was the most popular cafe/patisserie in Gisborne (if not the shire). Now (since they franchised it), it has just turned to s**t. There is nowhere near the variety of bakery food, lunch items, salads etc. like they use to have. The food they now have on offer is of average quality and at a higher expense, not to mention a large take away cappuccino will set you back over $5 but take almost 15min to be made for you (despite the place being relatively quite). The service provided was dismal (the senior staff were rude and also seemed to provid little assistance/guidance to the what I assume were newer staff members). If you weren't being ignored, forgotten about or brushed off then you would likely find yourself arguing with staff that the order you had made and paid for had still not been received (after nearly 20min of waiting and repeated efforts to find out how much longer it would take to get 2 drinks out of the fridge behind them and put a pre-made toasted focaccia into a take away bag - which turned out to be the wrong focaccia in the end anyway). Finally, the feel of this place has just gone. It now just feels like another boring unloved money motivated franchise that cares more about profit margins than retaining its former proud reputation for being a humble small local business that was renowned for its quality, service, and community...

Not sure if Jolly Miller Gisborne has changed hands in the past 6 months or got a new chef but it has gone down hill food and staff wise. Most of the staff don't want to be there and the gentleman manager is quite abrupt. We have been going there once a week for a while now and the standard of food has definitely gone down hill to the point the last few times we couldn't eat all our meals as they were over cooked or not what we ordered, example of a couple of thoose meals : I ordered soft poached eggs on toast got rock hard eggs asked for new ones and got the same back. Another person at our table ordered a ham, cheese and avo toasted sandwich they got 2 peices of toast a slice of ham, slice of cheese and half an avo on a plate all seperate .... who doesn't know how to make a toasted sandwich 🤷‍♀️ we asked them if they could toast it all together and they said no !!! we only went back to give them a go to redeem themselves but unfortunately we won't...
