If you're the type of aussie cobba who enjoys receiving a meal within 30, 40, 50 or even 60 minutes of ordering then this place is probably not going to be for you but if you enjoy drinking 10 beers after ordering (after a hard day digging up blackjacks and 12 carat sapphires) while you're waiting for dinner then, you're still probably not going to enjoy here. I'd say I'm a fairly even-handed, maybe even generous reviewer and I tried to look for a saving grace but it was like sieving through silt with a 10 metre grate size, so even a seasoned expert like myself had no chance.. We stayed in Glen Innes overnight on the way to Brisbane and decided on dinner at the Railway after checking out their menu online. We were not disappointed. The service was warm and friendly and the food was excellent. The desserts were outstanding. We had the Salted Apple Crumble and the Lemon Tart. Absolutely delicious and a bargain at $12 each. As we left,e told the chef how much we enjoyed our meal and made special mention of the desserts. He said they're the work of the apprentice, (Tyler, I think). Apprentice? Great experience! Staff are friendly and very efficient. Our server tonight was by far the fastest and most efficient server I've ever seen. And she still made time to talk to us all about our meal. The meals were good sizes and well priced. Everything was delicious. Options for vegetarians. Kids and desert menu. Dining room is quite lovely. Maybe not the best for those with mobility issues as there are some tighter corners in the building, but staff would be able to accommodate anyone I'm sure. Best to book ahead.
