We came here on Anzac Day and ordered our coffees, an omelette and a piece of cake. I had been expecting to pay an additional 15% public holiday surcharge, though I was charged even more than this. I asked for the receipt to see whether there was a mistake, although the cashier refused to provide a receipt, saying the machine 'ran out of ink' yesterday. I asked her for the individual prices of the items we ordered, and she couldn't provide these. She gave me approximate prices and it was clear it was not adding up. I said I wouldn't worry about the cake after the cashier said it was 'about $11' before the surcharge. The cashier gave me a refund for the slice of cake. When I checked the prices using the QR code, the total cost (including the 15% public holiday surcharge) was $6 less than what the cashier had charged me (and the cake was only $8, not $11). There was no explanation given as to what this extra $6 was for. Even after the refund for the cake, I was still out of pocket. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that this was a genuine error, however another customer had the same issue (he was charged more than the cost of his meal, even after factoring in the 15% holiday surcharge). He hadn't been provided with a receipt either. I would suggest you check your receipts or pay using the QR code if you come here, to avoid being charged an unexplained fee (on top of the cost of the meal and any public holiday surcharges). I'm not sure if the cashier had included a tip without telling me, and I'm unable to verify this given the cashier refused to provide a receipt and wouldn't tell me the exact prices of the items I'd paid for (it was all approximate and didn't add up to the total amount I'd paid).
I'm disappointed to write this review, as I had always enjoyed coming to this cafe and my previous experiences were positive (always nice food and friendly staff).
I really hope this doesn't happen to others. We came in around 11:30-11.45am on 25/4/2025 and know of at least one other person affected by this issue.
I've left a 2 star review instead of 1 star, as my previous experiences had...
Read moreAbsolutely lovely place and lovely staff. Long iced black coffee was up there with Melbourne coffee (bloody good coffee) I had the eggs Benedict which presented beautifully but the taste didn’t follow sadly the trend sadly. There are many other items on the menu that look delicious to try though!! Just one last thing was I ordered 2 extra hash browns which came out as on whole hash brown chopped in half haha. Just to finish on a positive, they did bring out a nice big bowl of water for my dog which was greatly...
Read moreHello Management, A comment regarding your coffee at the Cayman. I am not very happy with the change in your coffee bean selection in the coffee being served. It has less flavour and depth. The barristers are serving the coffee very well and always give 100 percent. Therefore, may I suggest to change back to the original bean you have had. In the mean time I will ask for another type of beverage, which they have luckily. Thank you for this opportunity to comment. Regards Paul...
