Deep South Chicken Upper Coomera — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

We used to buy and enjoy DSC on a regular basis, making special trips to Oxenford prior to their store opening in Coomera. Naturally we were extremely pleased they opened a store closer to home. Up until now we haven’t really had too much to fuss about as the food and service has been really good. Our most recent order was 15 May, 2024 we ordered 2 x 5 packs of Classic tenders, 2 x Large fries and 2 x Large Mac salads. Upon my arrival to pick up the order, which was placed online a staff member advised me that they no longer sell Mac salads, but I could choose from coleslaw and/or the warm mac as replacements. I chose one of each to be safe, as we have only ever had the Mac salad previously as it was just too good! I will say it was a little disappointing that this information wasn’t available online when placing the order. Not the end of the world, I know but I think the website should be updated and the Mac salad option be removed. If I had known that it wasn’t available I wouldn’t have placed the order. When I got home with the food, I took everything out of the bag and realised they had only given me one serve of the classic tenders, I called the store and advised what had happened and then drove back to pick up the 2nd box of tenders. This obviously wasn’t ideal as by the time I got home the chips and warm Mac were cold and dinner was pretty much ruined. The size of the chips and the side dishes were also a little disappointing, I’m glad I ordered large as I would hate to imagine how small the regular size is. Lastly the chips had that ‘old oil’ nasty taste to them, which I found to be quite unpleasant. I will say the staff weren’t rude, they just didn’t seem to be too concerned about messing up my order and just offered me a sauce, which I found amusing because one automatically comes with the tenders anyway. I’m not normally one to complain and prefer leaving positive feedback for businesses as I understand the pressures of running one, but given the current times I would like to see families get better value for their money on the odd occasion they do decide to support a...

if you were an existing customer to this store a few month's ago you need to hear this. I used to eat here all the time, the chicken patties were massive and the tenders were too. they are now under new management and have shrunken everything! the chicken patties are 80% crumbs now and the tenders is a tiny strip and also 80 % crumbs. after calling an employee to complain about how I didn't get a large chips, he assured me I did and that their ,portions of chips are significantly smaller and that, and i quote, "the regular side and large side look the same." so why did I pay for a large chips? and you are now not able to just get a side of chips, you MUST get a meal, including a drink and the "side of chips" is like 10 to 15 chips max. the new management have ruined everything that made this place great. when my friend went and asked why no cash was accepted, she was told "because our Brisbane store was robbed"... they don't have a Brisbane store. My boyfriend asked this same question a few weeks prior and the employee told him it was because they are under new management. so the new management has outright told their employees to lie. deep South Chicken - A Disappointing Downhill Slide

I used to be a huge fan of Deep South Chicken, but lately, the quality has taken a massive nosedive. It’s clear the new management has no idea what “Deep South” actually means. Getting rid of the remoulade sauce is bad enough, but the sauces are what make this place shine. They’re the reason Deep South Chicken stands above every other chicken shop! You can tell it’s new Aussie management by the way they added tomato sauce and mayo to the menu. Like, how Aussie do you want to be? This is Deep South Chicken, not Australian Chicken.

The food just doesn’t feel the same anymore. The recipes seem uninspired, and the soul of what made this place special is slipping away. If this is the direction they want to go, they risk losing the loyal customers who came here for that authentic southern taste.

Deep South Chicken needs to get back to its roots, or it’s going to lose the magic that made it a standout. Until then, I won’t be...
